Report Released on Fatal Bike/Truck Collision in Gaylord 05 Oct 15

The Sibley County Attorney’s Office determined it will not be issuing a citation as a result of a bicycle-dump truck accident July 10 that killed Gaylord Ambulance Director Tom Webster.

Webster was riding a bicycle north on the shoulder of 6th Street near High Avenue in Gaylord. Edgar Maldanado was driving a dump truck north in the traffic lane on the same street. Webster collided with the right side of the dump truck and died of his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol Crash Reconstruction Report, the primary contributing factors in the crash were Webster being distracted and in a position to not see the turn signal and/or brakes of the dump truck. Webster also applied the brakes too late causing a loss of control of the bicycle.
