Tiger Gameday – Week 8 08 Oct 15

Tiger Gameday – Week 8, 2015 Season

Last Game:  Hutchinson 41 Holy Family 14

Game Recap: The Hutchinson Tigers got their 5th straight win Friday beating Holy Family 41-14.  Sophomore Maguire Petersen had two touchdown catches in the win, and Isaiah Nelson rushed for two touchdowns.  Hutchinson is now 5-2 heading into the final game of the regular season.

Current Record: 5-2

This Week’s Opponent: Annandale (4-3)

About the Opponent: The Cardinals have developed into quite a nice 3A program over the years.  You’ll see another spread offense, a lot of passing with this one.  They do a nice job of getting the ball out quickly and making your defense tackle in space.  Defensively, they’ll play 5 linebackers and as a team are VERY athletic.

Key Hutch Players:  Last week of the regular season you start to look at improvement and how much has been made.  Gigantic strides have been made by a number of players…but we’ll spotlight two that will be most key tonight.  Linebackers Chandler Kurth and Michael Kieser.   Both will need to be on their game tackling tonight, and they have really taken a step up and become leaders on this defense.

Games Storylines:

  1. Mistakes.  It’s week 8, some of these things should be ironed out…but the flags flew again.  This is something that can hurt you in the playoffs…It needs to get shored up.
  2. Defensively the Tigers will have to contain QB Brock Fobbe for the Cards.  Fobbe is very good at getting the ball to his receivers, has a good arm, and can run.  He’s going to be a big threat tonight.  Going to have to play solid assignments to contain him.
  3. Offensively, the Tigers got the passing game clicking last week.  Got a great game from QB Matt Piechowski and WR Maguire Petersen.  That connection needs to grow now.  We all know Hutch football is never going to be pass first…BUT…you do need to pass the ball effectively to keep teams honest.
  4. Let’s go Waseca!  Wait…What?!?!  Well, A Waseca win will solidify the #2 seed in Sections for them, while putting Hutchinson in the #3 spot.  Technically, the two teams will TIE for the 2 spot, but Waseca would hold the tiebreaker.  Why is that good?  Well the #2 seed has to sit for almost 2 weeks with a bye before they play again in the playoffs.  The #3 seed plays next week on MEA Wednesday, and with the way the Tigers are playing this is a team you want to keep playing, keep momentum going…and not sit around getting rusty.
  5. A useless/interesting fact…The Annandale Football team has developed a good program and had a bunch of success under coach Matt Walter with 2 state tournament trips in the past 5 seasons.  But they are not their most dominant fall sport.  That would go to the Girls Cross Country team.  The Lady Cards have won the Section title for 7 straight years now, and are the Defending State Champions in Class A.
