Murphy wins Freshman of the Week 08 Dec 15

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota forward Jordan Murphy has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

The award was announced Monday for Murphy, who totaled 43 points and 27 rebounds with a double-double in both games for the Gophers last week.

In a victory over Clemson, Murphy became the first Gophers freshman since Kris Humphries in the 2003-04 season to post a double-double and posted the highest points total by a freshman for Minnesota since Andre Hollins in 2012.

Murphy is just the third Gophers winner of the award. Nate Mason got one last December.

The Gophers host South Dakota State Tuesday.
