New Strain of Norovirus Warning 23 Dec 15

(MNN/Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Health is warning citizens about a new strain of norovirus.

In a report issued Tuesday, they said the new strain could mean more norovirus, or gastro-intestinal illnesses.

According to the health agency, the new strain is called G-I-I-17 Kawasaki and caused outbreaks in Asia last winter before arriving in the U-S. The first outbreak caused by the new strain was reported last week.

Norovirus illnesses are often mistakenly identified as stomach flu. Norovirus, however, is not related to influenza, but causes vomiting, diarrhea, and low-grade fever.
