One Arrested After Renville County High Speed Chase 29 Mar 16

(Olivia, MN) On Monday, beginning at about 2am, a Renville County Deputy Sheriff attempted to make a traffic stop near the intersection of Renville County Road 1 and Renville County Road 17, which is about 4 miles south of Danube, MN in Troy Township.  Authorities say instead of stopping, the suspect fled and the deputy began a vehicle pursuit.

The suspect led the deputy, and eventually several other law enforcement officers, on the pursuit, which also took them into Redwood and Brown counties.  Speeds during the pursuit occasionally exceeded 100 miles an hour.  Several attempts were made to deploy tire deflation devices, but were unsuccessful.

The suspect ultimately drove into a field in Redwood County near Gilfillan Estate and attempted to cross the field.  The suspect vehicle then entered a drainage ditch, where it overturned.

The driver, 21-year-old Jacob K. Leith of Redwood Falls, MN, was taken into custody.  He and a passenger, 19-year-old Cante Lablanc of Redwood Falls, MN were transported by ambulance to the Redwood Area Hospital, where they were treated and released with no apparent injuries.

Leith is currently in custody in the Renville County Jail awaiting an initial appearance in Renville County District Court.
