Tiger Gameday – Week 4

Last Game: Hutchinson 40 WM 0

Game Recap:The Hutchinson Tigers used a stifling Defense to shut out the WM Royals 40-0 in East Central District South play.  Hutchinson’s defense allowed 120 yards rushing to RB Corey Jobe, but only 80 yards to everyone else in the shut out.  The Tiger Defense had 3 takeaways in the game including Fumble Recoveries by Chandler Kurth and Brooks Telecky, along with an Interception from Maguire Petersen.  Offensively the Tigers were diverse getting 4 Rushing TD’s, 1 Receiving TD, and 1 Special Teams TD.  Isaiah Nelson has 128 yards rushing and got the Punt Return TD.  Brooks Telecky got in the endzone twice late in the game, and Maguire Petersen had 2 TD’s also.

Current Record: 3-0

This Week’s Opponent: Delano (1-2)

About the Opponent: It’s another showdown in what’s been a great Hutch/Delano rivalry over the years. Delano will again bring a well coached, phsycial group to Friday night. Offense has been a struggle for Delano so far…with only 4 TD’s scored this season. It’s been a mix of run and pass for them so far. Defensively watch for Steve Hajas and Caden Link who have both been tackling machines.

Key Hutch Players: Anyone on the offense not named Isaiah Nelson or Maguire Petersen. After three games Hutch has relied on those two players quite heavily. And with good reason we might add…they’re pretty darn good players. BUT…at some point defenses will figure that out too and take them away. Other weapons need to step up and take some of the pressure off of them…Andrew Elliot? Travis Trettin? Fletcher Vilt? Tyler Schiller?

Games Storylines:

  1. Play 4 Quarters. The last few games between these teams, Delano has come out fast and got leads but Hutch was able to wear them down and come from behind for the win. It highlights the importance of playing all 4 quarters and not getting too down on yourself if you don’t have an early lead. But we might add…getting an early lead on the road can be a key thing also.

  2. Turnovers. In the two Delano losses this year, Turnovers came back to bite them. The Hutch defense should smell blood in the water on that front and look for some turnovers. Get them into that “Here we go again” mode. Fumbles, Interceptions, whatever you can to get that ball back.

  3. Weather. You sick of this rain also? Well fields are fairly saturated and while we don’t know the exact conditions for kickoff. Our weather forecasters predict it’s not going to be great, with a chance for rain and storms. Dealing with the elements will be key. Run games will be relied upon more heavily, and ball security will be key. Both teams have to deal with it…how you react to it can make or break you.

  4. Quick Hit Keys…Expect Delano to run and pass out of the Wishbone, they have good backs and receivers and may try to use fakes/play actions…Look for Hutch to try and play fast defensively…this is the first time in 3 seasons Hutch has gone to Delano.

  5. A useless/interesting fact…This is Delano Coach Merrill Pavlovich’s 41st season coaching. He has 288 career wins and is in the top 10 all time in Minnesota History.
