Tiger Gameday – Week 7

Last Game: Hutchinson 30 Litchfield 19

Game Recap: Turnovers turned out to be the key factor as Hutchinson outlasted Litchfield in a battle of teams that entered the game 5-0.  For the first 2 1/2 quarters the teams traded big plays with Hutchinson getting a 32 yard and a 33 yard Touchdown from Maguire Petersen, along with a 62 yard Touchdown from Isaiah Nelson.  Litchfield got a 62 yard and a 61 yard Touchdown from Brandon Nelson, and a Touchdown run from Logan Nelson.  Litchfield committed 4 turnovers in the game, but none meant more than a fumble recovery after a snap over QB Josh Prahl’s head at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Hutchinson would recover that ball on the Dragon 15 yard line and two plays later were in the endzone for what would be the final score of 30-19.  Prahl went 14/26, 263 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT along with 94 yards rushing.  Hutchinson QB Lane Glaser went 7/18, 141 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, and 65 yards rushing.

Current Record: 6-0 (#2, 4A)

This Week’s Opponent: Holy Family (2-4)

About the Opponent: Offense has been hard to come by for this team. The Fire have averaged only 14 points per game, and in their two wins they scored 9 points and 19 points. The team will still use their unique formations that you’ll only see in Victoria, putting Linemen next to receivers. Defensively the team will play a lot of stand up defense and not a lot of down linemen also. Have to be ready for them and not confused with formations.

Key Hutch Players: DB’s and LB’s. Dealing with all the formations takes discipline. Gotta be able to recognize who’s an eligible receiver and who’s not. Then once you recognize that playing defense gets easier. Read the play, react, and make the play. Gonna have to play just straight up Defense here, and that’s not a bad thing against this team.

Games Storylines:

  1. Don’t forget about the Fire’s Running Game. Just because they’ll line up in different formations doesn’t mean that they’ll never run the ball. Sometimes they’ll just try to slam it up the belly on you too. Be ready for that. The Tigers have greatly improved their run defense over the course of the season.

  2. Remember how we talked about keeping Litchfield’s offense off the field last week? Well we’ll echo that this week too. It’s not a bad thing to keep your offense on the field. HF has given up some points this year defensively, allowing over 28 points per game. And don’t forget the HF defense likes to try and confuse you to. Expect some blocking schemes to neutralize that.

  3. Refine your game. Just two games left in the regular season, now is the time to get fine tuned and make sure everything is clicking for the playoffs. You’ll probably need to go 8-0 to get a first round bye in the section playoffs. Can’t take any week off.

  4. Quick Hit Keys…Watch for a lot of bubble screens from HF…being a +3 on Turnovers last week may have been the reason for the win, keep that going this week…we hear there is a Hutchinson resident on the HF roster, so there’s a little local angle to the game also.

  5. A useless/interesting fact…HF has had enormous success in the playoffs the last 10 years. In fact you have to go back to 2005 to find the last time Holy Family lost their first Section Playoff Game. The team is 10-0 in the first round in the last 10 years.
