Tiger Gameday – Week 8 19 Oct 16

Tiger Gameday – Week 8

Last Game: Hutchinson 41 Holy Family 21

Game Recap: Hutchinson would score the final 3 Touchdowns of the game, to pull away from a pesky Holy Family Fire team winning the East Central District South Division Championship 41-21.  The win coupled with Litchfield’s loss Friday night gave the Tigers the Title outright.  Hutchinson had trouble stopping the Fire run allowing 246 yards rushing in the game, plus the Tigers committed 12 penalties in the game.  Hutchinson Senior RB Isaiah Nelson topped the 1,000 yard rushing mark in the game getting 170 yards and 4 Touchdowns.  Maguire Petersen and Travis Trettin scored the other two tallies.

Current Record: 7-0 (#2, 4A)

This Week’s Opponent: Annandale (4-3)

About the Opponent: Annandale has been an up and down team this season but is coming off their biggest win of the year in upsetting Litchfield. They’ll bring an athletic team offensively and defensively to the field again. One that likes to throw the ball all around the field and then run when you drop people back in coverage. For the second week in a row Hutch will see a QB that can throw and pass. Derek Tomberlin has thrown for 950 yards, and leads the team in rushing with 366 yards.

Key Hutch Players: Defensive Line. After being gashed by HF last week, the Defensive line will be tasked again with trying to stop a running game and getting some pressure on the Cardinals QB. Hutch has been able to get some pressure on teams, but hasn’t been able to get QB Sacks.

Games Storylines:

  1. Hutch was caught out of position defensively a number of times last week vs. Holy Family. You’re facing another team that is able to do some things offensively that can cross you up. Plus a team that hung one on the Tigers last year, so they certainly have confidence they can do it again. Look for Defensive improvement on the Tigers’ side of things. It’ll have to start with stopping the Cardinals run/pass attack.

  2. Offensively Hutch has been playing well this season, Senior Isaiah Nelson has led the way rushing for over 1,000 yards despite defenses trying to take him away. The Tigers’ have had to get more diverse with the offense and players like Travis “The Bull Horse” Trettin, Fletcher Vilt, Maguire Petersen and more. That makes the offense more potent.

  3. Don’t lose sight of the Playoffs. The District Divsion title is wrapped up for Hutch. BUT…Hutch, despite being ranked #2 in the state, likely needs to win to guarantee a first round bye in the Sections. A loss still might give a Hutch a bye, but don’t leave anything to formula’s. Play your best ball and go into the playoffs on a high note.

  4. Quick Hit Keys….Short Week, how does that affect preparations?…Turnovers were the key factor in last years game: Annandale didn’t have any, while Hutch had a bunch.

  5. A useless/interesting fact…We’re gonna skip out of football for this one today and salute one of Hutchinson’s own going for another title Thursday. We Salute Lindsay Whalen! Did you know in addition to, obviously, being one of the best basketball players in the state during her time…Lindsay was also an All Conference Selection in Tennis and Track. Go get ‘em Lynx!
