Tiger Gameday – Section Semi Finals

Last Game: Hutchinson 41 Annandale 13

Game Recap: The Hutchinson Tigers finished the 2016 Regular Season with a perfect 8-0 record after beating the Annandale Cardinals 41-13.  Hutchinson got started early with Isaiah Nelson returning the opening Kickoff for a 90 yard Touchd0wn.  Nelson would finish the game with 148 yards rushing and another TD.  QB Lane Glaser and WR Maguire Petersen hooked up for two Touchdowns to pull away from the Cards in the first half.  Defensively the Tigers forced 5 turnovers and got 2 QB Sacks.

Current Record: 8-0 (#2, 4A)

This Week’s Opponent: Waseca (8-1)

About the Opponent: The Blue Jays come into the game with another great season under their belt, BUT…they come in a bit hurting. 1,400 yard rusher Jack Milbrett is out with a torn ACL, as is his backup RB and brother Beau Milbrett. The Offense has had to make some changes, but the Defense is still stellar. Waseca gave up 42 points to Marshall in Week 2, and 68 points to everyone else combined. Moving the ball on the Blue Jays has been very difficult for teams this year.

Key Hutch Players: Offensive Line. As good as the Waseca defense has been this season, running the ball could be difficult, and that’s the Hutch strength. The OL needs to be on their game and blocking well to move the ball. Get your own 1,200 yard rusher Isaiah Nelson some room to work and let him get loose.

Games Storylines:

  1. Even though Waseca has suffered injuries on the offensive side of things, their offense can still be tricky. They’ll run out of the Pistol, and are VERY good at fakes. You have to play good assignment oriented defense and tackle well. Trystan Kincade, who was the QB, is now the starting RB. He has over 400 yards rushing this season so the Blue Jays may lean on him a bit more.

  2. Out of Routine? While the Saturday game can be cool to play in, in can offer some challenges. First the afternoon time is out of the ordinary, but teams do practice in the afternoon…There is no school on Saturday so kids have a different routine…and for Hutchinson, they did not play on Tuesday so will there be any rust?

  3. Turnovers are always a key and especially so in the playoffs. The team that takes care of the ball is usually the team that moves on. If you’re on offense take care of the ball, and if you’re on defense find a way to get some turnovers.

  4. Quick Hit Keys….Control the clock, Control the Game?…Use your homefield advantage, Hutch has been very difficult to beat over the years at home…Watch for Savieon Williamson Saturday, he has 5 Interceptions and 2 defensive TD’s, plus is the teams leading receiver.

  5. A useless/interesting fact…Hutchinson has ended Waseca’s season the last three years, Twice in the Section Championship Game and last year in the Semi Final Round in Waseca.
