Vasquez Murder Trial Continues 22 Feb 17

The trial for a man accused of killing a Springfield woman in 2014 resumed Tuesday after it was suspended in November following a suicide attempt.

Miguel Vasquez is facing a first degree murder charges for the death of Amber Lechuga of Springfield.

The state called their first witnesses Tuesday morning.

State Fire Marshall Inspector Steve Kellen testified that after examining flame and heat patterns from the burned out van found south of Sleepy Eye that contained Lechuga’s remains, he believes the fire was started with gasoline between the front and back seats. The state also called Sharon Theis, finance of Amber Lechuga’s father, Adolfo Lechuga. She testified to speaking to Vasquez the morning of the killing when he reported Amber missing.

The trial is expected to be concluded March 3rd.
