Guilty Verdict in Vasquez Murder Trial 01 Mar 17

The prosecution wrapped up their case and delivered closing remarks Tuesday afternoon in the murder trail of Miguel Vasquez. A short time later, Brown County District Court Judge Robert Docherty delivered a guilty verdict on all counts.

The Twenty-eight-year-old from Springfield was convicted of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree arson for the killing and dismemberment of his ex-girlfriend Amber Lechuga.

The defense did not call any witnesses to testify and Vasquez did not take the stand.

The mandatory sentence for a person convicted of first-degree murder in Minnesota is life in prison.

Vasquez pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the charges which means the trial has two parts.

One to determine guilt, and the other to determine his mental state, which will continue today (Wednesday).
