(Learfield News Service/St. Paul, MN) A bill allowing liquor stores to be open Sundays in Minnesota is on its way to Governor Mark Dayton, who said he’ll sign it.
The House Thursday afternoon agreed with the Senate bill which has slightly shorter Sunday hours for liquor stores — 11am to 6pm.
Bill sponsor, Eden Prairie Republican Jenifer Loon says, “It’s time that we change this law, bringing Minnesota liquor laws into the 21st Century.”
Opponents say mom-and-pop operations will be forced out of business by big-box retailers because of higher overhead.
Others say a substance that creates as much trouble as alcohol does, shouldn’t be available one more day of the week.
