Sibley County Deputy Arrested/Charged 13 Jun 17

(Gaylord, MN) – A Sibley County Sheriff’s Deputy is facing charges of drug possession and trespassing.

Jason David Ruehling

According to a statement from authorities, 44-year-old Jason David Ruehling of Arlington was arrested on June 8th, about a week after he was placed on paid administrative leave. At the time, he was given written notice not to return to the Sheriff’s Office, but he did and was found to be in possession of Schedule IV controlled substances.

The statement doesn’t indicate which Schedule IV controlled substances Ruehling allegedly had, but that drug group includes a variety of narcotics, depressants and stimulants.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath says Ruehling has been with the Sheriff’s Office for about 17 years and drug cases were among those that he investigated.

Sheriff Ponath would not says why Ruehling was put on administrative leave in the first place, saying that remains under investigation.

The McLeod County Attorney’s Office will be handling the prosecution to avoid a potential conflict of interest in Sibley County.
