Update-Fatal Skid Loader Accident/Renville County 28 Jun 17

(Preston Lake Township, MN) Authorities have released the name of the man that died when his skid loader rolled into a ditch Tuesday evening in Renville County.

The victim is identified as 70-year-old Larry Rath of rural Stewart.

At 5:18 PM, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a Bobcat skid loader on its roof in the ditch and that the operator was still inside the machine.  The scene was reported to be along the 52000 block of 840th Avenue, which is located approximately four (4) miles north of Buffalo Lake in Preston Lake Township.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Rath was mowing grass with an attached mower when the skid loader rolled over into the ditch. Rath was initially trapped inside the cab and needed to be extricated. Authorities say he was removed from the vehicle and, despite resuscitation efforts, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
