Hutchinson Dog Park 28 Jun 17

The city of Hutchinson is closer to getting a new dog park.

At last night’s (Tuesday) City Council meeting, the council approved selecting the location, which is 1.03-acres north of the intersection of 1st Avenue Southeast and Erie Street Southeast. (That portion of land is about one block east of the Depot and just east of B & C Plumbing and Heating-see below).

Along with that, the council also approved establishing a budget with funding sources, which includes seeking grant money to help offset the cost of the estimated $41,000 facility.

In the past year, supporters have already raised over $10,000 to be put toward that cost.

City staff will also have to establish a policy for the park.

City Administrator Matt Jaunich says items that must be in the policy include having pets licensed and vaccinated, separate areas for large and small dogs, pet owner’s responsibility regarding waste, and addressing vicious or violent dogs.

Jaunich says one way or another, the park should be completed by September of this year.
