Twins with big comeback, sign Colon 08 Jul 17

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kennys Vargas had three hits, including a big two-run double in the fifth inning, hours after being recalled from the minors to help lead the Minnesota Twins to a 9-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. Trevor Hildenberger pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for his first major-league win as Baltimore lost its fifth straight.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins placed Joe Mauer on the 10-day disabled list Friday with a strained lower back, hoping the short stint combined with the All-Star break can minimize the number of games missed. He hurt himself in Tuesday’s game with the Los Angeles Angels. Manager Paul Molitor hopes Mauer can return in time for next Saturday’s game at Houston.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Bartolo Colon agreed to terms Friday on a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins, who would be his 10th major league team over a 20-year career. The 44-year-old Colon, who has 235 career victories, was designated for assignment last Thursday by the Atlanta Braves. The Twins say Colon will report to Triple-A Rochester soon.
