Group Wants to Replace Columbus Statue with Prince Statue 29 Aug 17

(Learfield News Service/St. Paul, MN) — A Minnesota group is circulating a petition to replace a statue of Christopher Columbus in St. Paul with one of late music superstar Prince.

Organizers believe the new statue that would go outside the state Capitol would “represent Minnesota values.”

The belief of the group is that Columbus was behind the rape, murder and enslavement of black and native Americans.

As of Sunday, the petition had nearly reached its goal of two-thousand signatures. It would then be handed over to Governor Mark Dayton.

Prince died of a drug overdose in April 2016 at his Paisley Park Studio/home.
