Tiger Gameday: Week 6 vs Princeton 05 Oct 17

Tiger Gameday – Week 6

Last Game: Hutchinson 29 St Cloud Apollo 14

Game Recap: The Hutchinson Tigers defense smothered Apollo getting a 29-14 win on Homecoming in Week 5.  The Tigers allowed only 109 yards of offense, while 66 of those came on one scoring play.  The Hutch offense sputtered at times, but woke up in the second half.  Both Christian Kurth and Josiah Nelson had 100 yard rushing games and both scored in the second half to help the Tigers to the win.

Current Record: 5-0 (Ranked #5 in Class 4A)

This Week’s Opponent: Princeton 0-5

About the Opponent: Its been a rough season for the Princeton Tigers losing all of their games so far. Offensively and Defensively they have struggled. They’ve only scored an average of about 2 touchdowns a game, while they have given up 21 or more in every game, 50 or more in 3 of their 5 games.

Key Hutch Players: We’ll spotlight the Hutchinson Offensive Line here. They have had some movements in and out of the lineups due to injuries and matchups, but now is the time to gel. Three Regular Season games left before the playoffs. Time to find your best 5 and get them mauling, opening holes, pass blocking. The Tigers have been at their best over the years when they’ve had a good OL. This one can be good, just needs to gel and work together.

Game Storylines:

  1. Guard against the big play. If there has been one spot Hutch hasn’t been great at, it’s giving up the 1 play drives. Multiple times this year, Hutch has given up TD’s of 50 or more yards. Like last week, Apollo had more yards on 1 play, then they did the entire rest of the game on offense. Can’t give up big plays consistently.

  2. Find a passing game. Hutchinson has struggled in this department after a great start to the year throwing the ball. Hutch has only completed 3 passes in the past 2 weeks. We know no one is going to confuse Hutchinson ever with a wide open pass first offense. But you must be able to throw the ball to keep defenses honest.

  3. Find more depth. We realize there may be opportunities for other kids to get in the game this week, due to injuries and other factors. When those kids get in, we’re looking for them to shine. The more depth a team has the more dangerous it can become. Take advantage of the opportunity no matter how you got it!

  4. Quick Hit Keys….Win the Turnover battle, Hutch hasn’t done that in all of their games but still 5-0…Weather doesn’t sound too good, rainy, cruddy conditions…Look for the team to focus on themselves and the little things they can do right together as a team to add up to a big key.

  5. A useless/interesting fact…It’s been a tough time this Year for Princeton, but before this they were quite formidable. Princeton has advanced to their last two Section Championship Games in the previous two seasons.
