Tiger Gameday: Week 7 13 Oct 17

Tiger Gameday – Week 7

Last Game: Hutchinson 54 Princeton 7

Game Recap: Hutchinson got over 500 yards of total offense in moving to 6-0 on the year with a 54-7 win over Princeton.  Backup Fullback Hayden Jensen led the attack with 138 yards rushing and 3 Touchdowns.  WR Maguire Petersen also caught two balls for 84 yards, both for Touchdowns.

Current Record: 6-0 (Ranked #4 in Class 4A)

This Week’s Opponent: Rocori 6-0 (Ranked #5 in Class 4A)

About the Opponent: It’s a showdown for the District Title as this is Hutchinson’s final Division game of the season. It’s also an opponent that was 1 or 2 plays away from playing for the state title last year. They bring back a lot of the players from that squad from last year. They havent blown anyone away this year, but they have been a good solid team that doesn’t make mistakes.

Key Hutch Players: Hutchinson Defensive Line and Linebackers. While Rocori will run the spread, they do it to open up their run game and Hutch will see a big dose of running. The Front 7 of the Tigers will be tasked with tackling well and controlling the running game. Rocori RB Matt Koshiol is having a great year and he’ll be the main threat to watch for. If the Tigers can control the run game that’ll go a long way to controlling the Spartans. If they can’t control it that way, then you have to bring extraplayers in the box…which in turn opens it up for big plays in the passing game.

Game Storylines:

  1. BIG Line…The Rocori Offensive and Defensive Line has size and strength. Hutch will need to use whatever quickness and speed they have. May be a bit difficult to try and out power them.

  2. Hutchinson Defensive Trickiness. That’s nothing new, most teams try to confuse offenses by disguising coverages…its just this week we’re going to highlight this. Rocori is a team that doesnt make mistakes, they are very good at playing clean football. That means you may have to try and force or confuse them into a mistake.

  3. Find Success on the ground and punch it in. Rocori hasn’t given up many big plays to opposing offenses. That’s fine with Hutch whos made its name on long drawn out drives. Going to be important though to cash in on those drives and get it in the endzone. We have a feeling there may not be a whole lot of drives for each team with both teams wanting to control the game and run the ball.

  4. Quick Hit Keys….Start Quick, worked last week putting pressure on the opponent…Look for Rocori to run a 4-4 defense with GREAT pursuit of the ballcarrier

  5. A useless/interesting fact…Rocori has had a nice run of it the last few years. The Spartans have made the state tournament the past 3 seasons…the past two of which they advanced to the Semi Finals.
