Tiger Gameday – Section Quarterfinals 24 Oct 17

Tiger Gameday – Week 9 Section Quarterfinals

Last Game: Sauk Rapids Rice 23 Hutchinson 22

Game Recap: Hutchinson led for most of the game, but not in the final minute as Sauk Rapids Rice hands Hutchinson their second loss of the season 23-22.  Hutchinson would get Touchdowns from Maguire Petersen, Brooks Telecky, and Josiah Nelson…but were unable to stop the big play as the storm got 3 long Touchdowns in the loss.

Current Record: 6-2

This Week’s Opponent: #6 seed-New Ulm (3-5)

About the Opponent: Offense has not been a terribly big issue for this New Ulm team as they’ve been able to score significant points in 6 of their 8 games this season, and has gotten yardage on most everyone also. Defense has been the issue as the Eagles have given up an average of 37.3 points per game, and 99 points in their last two games combined.

Key Hutch Players: Everyone. We’ve always highlighted one group of players on this preview, until now. Right now this team isn’t playing as well as it could. No blame, No pointing fingers, everyone needs to play better. Figure out you as a player can do to help the team.

Game Storylines:

  1. Injuries. Hutch had a couple of major injuries last game. The Tigers will need a new Offensive Lineman and a New Safety due to season ending injuries. Gotta have that next man up mind set. It’s a short week, funky practice schedule…a lot of outside factors…but bottom line is someone needs to jump in and play well. A lot can be done off the field in studying, and knowing what your job is supposed to be…get the assignments right. To us that’s 75% of the job is knowing what to do.

  2. Offensively, Hutchinson needs to get back to running the football and mauling. Hutch football has always been about the run, teams know the Tigers do it…you just have to execute. Get good blocking, good vision, hold onto the ball, good play calling…everyone in together as a team.

  3. Defensively, Hutch needs to be able to contain the Eagles spread offense. If memory serves us correctly the last time Hutch took on New Ulm the Eagles got out to a bit of a lead with the spread before adjustments were made and Hutch came away with the win. The spread isn’t anything new, the Tigers have seen it before….but you have to make sure you know your assignments…tackle well…pursue…just overall good solid defense. Something the Tigers have done all year.

  4. Quick Hit Keys….Turnovers are always a key, but taking advantage of them is too!…Deal with the NU QB, he’s accounted for about 1700 total yards…Put your best Cover guy on Connor Foley, he’s got 997 yards this season…Start Fast, this is a team that gives up points, put the gas to the floor.

  5. A useless/interesting fact…This is Game #1000 in the Programs History. Quite an accomplishment that not many schools can say they’ve done. Off hand we don’t know when the first game was but we can tell you about one of the first KDUZ broadcasters. Oh you know him…he’s still on the air for our snowmobile update show in the winter…”Wild” Bill Arndt.
