Hutchinson WWII Vet Awarded France’s “Legion of Honor” 20 Nov 17

A World War II veteran from Hutchinson received a special honor Saturday.

WCCO reports Elvin “Speedy Homan” fought on the beaches of Normandy France on D-Day in 1944. He was captured by German soldiers and spent months as a prisoner of war.

He was honored Saturday with the Legion of Honor, France’s highest national honor. Homan was honorably discharged from the army in 1945, but he re-enlisted in 1950 to serve in the Korean War.
