Gov Signs Executive Order to Assist Renville County 06 Dec 17

ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton signed an emergency executive order Tuesday to provide assistance and emergency relief services to Renville County.

On Monday (December 4), a winter storm with strong winds and blowing snow caused blizzard conditions threatened public safety and necessitated road closures in Renville County.

The storm created dangerous driving conditions which resulted in stranded motorists and an imminent danger to persons and property, which presented an immediate need to activate emergency sheltering resources.

Because local resources were inadequate to meet the demands generated by the winter conditions, the Renville County Sheriff requested the use of the armory in Olivia and the assistance of the Minnesota National Guard to shelter stranded motorists.

The Governor’s order directs the Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard to provide assistance and emergency relief services to support Renville County, until the termination of the emergency conditions caused by the winter storm affecting Renville County.
