Kandiyohi County Sales Tax Implementation Nears 19 Mar 18

(West Central Tribune/Willmar, MN) As the implementation date for a countywide sales tax draws near, Kandiyohi County officials are putting the final touches on the timetable for how the proceeds will be spent over the next four to five years.

The West Central Tribune reports the proposed construction schedule, totaling $13 million through 2022, was presented last week to the County Board of Commissioners.

It’s part of the county’s overall plan for highway improvement projects for the next five years.

The half-cent local option sales tax goes into effect April 1.

It was approved in November by the County Board after months of discussion and a series of public hearings.

Under Minnesota statute, the proceeds of the tax must be earmarked for specific transportation projects and the tax must sunset once the projects are paid for.
