Springfield Man Gets Two Prison Sentences on Same Day 10 May 18

GRANITE FALLS — A Springfield man was sentenced to prison Tuesday by judges in two counties.

The West Central Tribune reports 37-year-old Michael Allen Chenoweth was sentenced on a burglary charge in Yellow Medicine County and on a drug charge in Renville County. The sentences will be served concurrently.

In Yellow Medicine County District Court, Chenoweth was sentenced to 32 months in prison for burglarizing the rural home of Sheriff Bill Flaten while Flaten’s 12-year-old son was home in December 2017. Chenoweth received credit for 132 days already served, a little more than four months.

In Renville County District Court, Chenoweth was sentenced to 40 months in prison on a 2016 charge of third-degree drug possession in a park zone. The sentence was amended after he was found to have violated the terms of his probation. He received credit for 333 days, about 11 months, already served in custody for that case.

Drugs and alcohol addictions change people, including their behavior. Many people do things they would not normally do when controlled by their addictions. The good news is there is help when they are ready.
