Strong Winds/Rain Hit Parts of MN 12 Jun 18

(Learfield News Service) Parts of central Minnesota and the western edge of the metro are cleaning up from severe storms with damaging winds and heavy rains.

The National Weather Service reported wind gusts 45 to 55 miles per hour in the St. Cloud and Lake Minnetonka areas.

Trees a foot in diameter were downed in Sauk Rapids and Sartell and a 20-inch tree fell on a Long Lake fire truck in Orono.

Many boats and docks suffered storm damage on Lake Minnetonka, and there were downed power lines in western Hennepin County.

A lightning strike caused a barn fire Monday afternoon in Stearns County.

The rain totals include four-point-six inches in Spicer, more than three inches in Glenwood and Cosmos, two-plus in Granite Falls, Perham and Brown County, and more than an inch-and-a-half in Fergus Falls.
