ST. PAUL, MN (May 19, 2013) – Brandon and Jordan Tripp are separated by four years and had never played in a game together prior to this season. For the first time they both started in the same game and made it a memorable one with each homering as they helped the St. Paul Saints win 9-3 over the New Jersey Jackals, in a game shortened to eight innings because of rain, on Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 3,350. The Saints took three out of four in the series to begin the season.

For the second consecutive game the Saints put up a crooked number in the first inning as the first four hitters reached base. Dan Kaczrowski reached on a throwing error by shortstop Jeremy Barnes. Adam Frost’s bunt single put runners at first and second. Joey Becker followed with a walk to load the bases. Craig Brazell came through with a two-run single to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Willie Cabrera made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly and Brandon Tripp finished the scoring with an RBI infield single.

With the Saints leading 4-1 in the fourth Brandon Tripp hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot to right-center, to make it 5-1. Brandon finished the game 3-4 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored. Two batters later Dwight Childs hit his first homer of the year, a solo drive to left-center to make it 6-1 Saints.

In the sixth the Jackals made it 6-2 when Jeremy Barnes hit his first homer of the season, a solo blast to left.

The Saints answered right back in the bottom of the sixth as Jordan Tripp joined his brother in the home run department when he hit a solo bomb off the scoreboard in left-center, his first of the season to make it 7-2.

With the score 7-3 the Saints tacked on two more in the seventh when Kaczrowski reached on a three base throwing error by pitcher Chad Rose. Adam Frost knocked him home with a single to make it 8-3. With Frost at second and one out, he stole third and scored on Brazell’s single.

Saints starter Anthony Claggett was solid in his season debut going 6.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out three.

The Saints have Monday off and will head to Sioux Falls Stadium for a three game series beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.

ST. PAUL, MN (May 18, 2013) – Up and down the lineup the St. Paul Saints got huge contributions, but it was Joey Becker and Brad Boyer who helped lead the way in a 15 hit attack, with both players collecting four hits and scoring four runs, as the Saints defeated the New Jersey Jackals 14-9 on Saturday night at Midway Stadium in front of 3,557.

The Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first three innings. They put up a three spot in the first inning when Dan Kaczrowski led off with a walk and scored when Joey Becker doubled him home. Brad Boyer followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. After Craig Brazell walked Willie Cabrera made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

In the second, Becker, who had just six home runs in his six year career, hit a solo homer to left, to make it 4-0 Saints. Boyer followed with a triple and Brazell walked. Cabrera knocked home his second run of the game with an RBI single and two batters later Jose Hernandez made it 6-0 with an RBI fielder’s choice.

With the Saints leading 7-2 in the fifth Kaczrowski reached on an infield single to short. Becker followed with a single to center and Boyer knocked home Kaczrowski with a single to right. The throw to the plate went past the catcher Kyle Nisson allowing Becker to score giving the Saints a 9-2 lead. With Boyer at third Brazell knocked him home with an RBI ground out to make it 10-2.

The Saints looked to have a comfortable lead, but the Jackals exploded for six in the seventh. Chris Curran, Jeremy Barnes, Chris Duffy and Nick Giarraputo all singled consecutively to make it 10-3. With one out Jose Cuevas launched a grand slam, his first homer of the season, to make it 10-8.

The Saints extended the lead, however, in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single from Tripp to make it 12-8. They tacked on two more in the eighth on a sac fly from Becker and an RBI single from Boyer.

Becker and Boyer became the 42nd and 43rd players in Saints history to score four runs in a game and it was the first time in Becker’s career and just the second time Boyer had recorded the feat.

The same two teams meet Sunday afternoon in the finale of the four game series at 1:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Anthony Claggett (NR) to the mound against Jackals LHP Craig Bennigson (NR). It is Dog Day at the Park presented by University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center.

RED SOX NOTES:

RED SOX NOTES:

· The Red Sox defeated the Twins tonight, 12-5, giving them their fourth straight win, their longest streak since winning five in a row April 24-28…Boston is now 3-3 against the Twins this season and 7-6 since the start of 2012…the Red Sox are in search of their seventh straight winning season against the Twins (since 2007), but would need a win tomorrow to finalize the sweep in this current three-game set at Target Field to do so…since the start of the 2007 season Boston is 27-18 against the Twins.

· Ryan Dempster did not factor into the decision tonight after allowing five runs on eight hits and six walks while striking out two in 4.2 innings…the six walks were a season high and the most since also walking six on September 23, 2011 at St. Louis…the 127 pitches tonight were the most of the season (previously 117) and are tied for the fourth most of his career…he last threw at least 127 pitches on September 13, 2011 at Cincinnati (128)…the last time a Red Sox starter threw at least 127 pitches was Jon Lester (also 127) on May 30, 2011 in 5.2 innings…the 127 pitches are tied for second most by a starter in Target Field history (Jered Weaver, 128 on 5/28/11; Derek Lowe, 127 on 5/15/12)…Dempster’s career-high is 130 on August 21, 2000 at San Francisco…the 4.2 innings were the fewest since going 3.0 innings in his final appearance of 2012, October 3 at Oakland.

· David Ortiz (3-for-4) hit his sixth home run of the season with a three-run shot in the first inning off Diamond and followed it with his seventh home run, a two-run shot in the seventh inning off Swarzak…tonight marked his 40th career multi-home run game and the first of 2013, his last came on June 25, 2012 vs. Toronto…it is the 14th time in his career to hit one off a right-hander and one off a left-hander in the same game…he has three homers in this current road trip (five games) and he has at least one RBI in each of those five games (12 total RBI)…he now has a hit in all 10 of his road games this season, hitting .395 (15-for-38) with five homers and 18 RBI in those 10…the six RBI tonight tied his career-high mark, the fourth time having six RBI with the last coming August 12, 2008 vs. Texas…Ortiz is a career .500 (19-for-38) hitter with five home runs and 16 RBI in 10 games at Target Field…tonight marked his eighth career three-plus hit game against Minnesota.

· Dustin Pedroia (2-for-3) extended his current hit-streak to 10-games tonight…over the 10 game streak he is hitting .410 (16-for-39) with five doubles, five RBI and 11 runs scored…he has reached base safely in 49 of his last 53 games dating back to September 21, 2012.

· Daniel Nava (2-for-4) hit his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning…the sixth home ties his career-high for homers in a single-season (also 2012).

TWINS NOTES:

· The Twins lost to the Red Sox 12-5 tonight, ensuring the series loss…they are now 3-3 against the Red Sox this season and will look to win the season series for the first time since 2006 tomorrow…the 12 runs allowed by the Twins tonight were the second-most this season behind April 16 vs. New York-NL (16 runs)…the Twins fall to a season-high three games under .500 for the second time this season (alsoApril 13, 4-7)…Minnesota left 13 runners on base tonight, the most since leaving 14 on base August 23, 2012 at Texas.

· Scott Diamond allowed six runs on eight hits with three walks and one strikeout in 4.1 innings…it was his second straight start allowing six runs after allowing just two runs in his previous two starts (13.0 IP)…after walking just three batters in his first five starts (29.2 IP), Diamond has walked six batters in his last two starts (10.0 IP)…the loss tonight is his second consecutive overall and his fourth straight loss at home in his four starts at Target Field…Diamond has not won at Target Field since July 27, 2012 vs. Cleveland, a span of 10 starts.

· Joe Mauer (2-for-5) extended his hitting streak to a season-high 15 games, marking his longest since August 2-18, 2009 (also 15 games)…over the 15 games he is hitting .442 (27-for-61) with 12 doubles, 11 walks and five RBI…with one more game he will tie his career-long streak of 16 games August 4-24, 2008…with a single in the fifth inning Mauer now has 16 multi-hit games this season, eight of which have come during his streak…his 15 multi-hit games coming into today were tied for eighth in the AL.

· Justin Morneau (2-for-5) has hit safely in 18 of his last 21 games, batting .353 (30-for-85) in that span…he has five multi-hit games in his last seven games.

· Pedro Florimon (2-for-4) drove in two runs with two hits tonight…it was his second straight multi-RBI effort after also driving in two runs with a home run last night…he now has five multi-RBI games, which are second-most on the team behind Morneau (7)…he stole his fifth base of the season in the fifth inning tonight…the five stolen bags lead all Twins…tonight marked his fifth multi-hit game of the season.

· Oswaldo Arcia (0-for-2) walked a career-high three times tonight…he has eight walks this season and four walks in his last two games…the three walks tied the Twins season-high for a player in a single game (Willingham April 6, Mauer May 13).

· Ryan Doumit (2-for-4) doubled in the fifth inning, his ninth double of the season…nine of his 26 hits this year are doubles (35%).

· The Twins reinstated right-handed pitcher Cole De Vries from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester earlier today.

RED SOX NOTES:

· The Red Sox defeated the Twins tonight, 3-2 in 10 innings, giving them their third straight win…the Red Sox are 3-1 in extra innings this season, 1-0 on the road…the three wins in a row is the longest streak since winning five in a row from April 24-28…Boston is now 3-2 against the Twins this season and 6-6 since the start of 2012…the Red Sox are in search of their seventh straight winning season against the Twins (since 2007), but would need a sweep in this current three-game set at Target Field to do so…since the start of the 2007 season Boston is 26-18 against Minnesota.

· Clay Buchholz did not factor into the decision tonight after allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out nine in 7.0 innings…he had not allowed a home run to the Twins in 38.0 career innings pitched before allowing a two-run shot to Florimon in the third inning with one out…it was the first homer allowed by Buchholz since April 3 at New York-AL (Travis Hafner), a span of seven starts without allowing a home run…since 2010 he has a record of 3-0, 3.05 ERA (38.1 IP, 13 ER) in six starts against the Twins…he has struckout at least nine batters in four of his nine starts this season.

· Dustin Pedroia (1-for-5) extended his current hit-streak to nine-games tonight…over the nine game streak he is hitting .389 (14-for-36) with four doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored…he has reached base safely in 48 of his last 52 games dating back to September 21, 2012…he had grounded into just five double plays entering tonight, before he ground into two, one of which ended the fifth inning with runners on the corners in a one-run game…the only time in his career in which he grounded into two double plays in one game was April 12, 2009 at Los Angeles-AL.

· David Ortiz (3-for-4) singled in a run in the first inning tonight…he now has a hit in all nine of his road games this season, hitting .353 (12-for-34) with three homers and 12 RBI in those nine…he has at least one RBI in four straight games (five RBI in those four) and at least one hit in five straight…tonight marked his first multi-hit game since April 30 at Toronto (13 games) while his three hits tied a season-high (two other times, last: April 25 vs. Houston)…Ortiz is a career .471 (16-for-34) hitter in nine games at Target Field….tonight marked his seventh career three-plus hit game against Minnesota.

· Jacoby Ellsbury (1-for-5) stole his 13th base of the season in the seventh inning…he is 13-for-15 in stolen base attempts this season…it was his first stolen base in his last 11 games…despite the 11 games without a stolen base, Ellsbury came into today’s game leading the AL in steals.

TWINS NOTES:

· The Twins lost to the Red Sox 3-2 tonight in the 10th inning…they are now 3-2 against the Red Sox this season…the Twins extra-inning loss was the fourth of the season (1-4)…Minnesota is now 5-5 in one-run games on the season…the four hits on the night tied their season low, also two other times with the last being April 13 vs. New York-NL…they are 1-2 with four hits this season…the Twins have 33 doubles in their last 11 games and 44 total extra-base hits in those 11 games.

· Vance Worley allowed one run, unearned, on six hits and three walks while striking out one in 6.0 innings tonight…it was his longest outing since going 7.0 innings on April 20 at Chicago-AL…tonight was the first start of the season to not allow an earned run…the three walks were a season-high…tonight was the second time in his last three starts to face the Red Sox (also May 6 at Boston) and in the two starts combined for a 2.45 ERA (11.0 IP, 3 ER) with 15 hits and four strikeouts.

· Pedro Florimon (1-for-3) hit his second home run of the season with a two-run shot to right field off Buchholz to put the Twins up 2-1 in the third inning…Buchholz had not allowed a homer to a Twin in his previous six starts (35.2 innings)…it was the third home run of Florimon’s career, and the first with a runner on base…all three of his career homers have come off right-handed pitching…his previous two homers both came on full counts, tonight’s was on the first pitch.

· Trevor Plouffe (1-for-4) hit his eighth double of the season in the third inning…he has 13 extra-base hits this year and five doubles in his last 12 games.

· Justin Morneau (0-for-4) snapped his season-high 11 game hitting streak tonight…over the 11 games he hit .422 (19-for-45)…however, he has still hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games, batting .350 (28-for-80) in that span.

· The Twins released left-handed pitcher Rafael Perez earlier today, making him a free agent.

ST. PAUL, MN (May 17, 2013) – The St. Paul Saints put on a dominating pitching performance as they retired the final 23 New Jersey Jackals hitters en route to a 5-1 victory on Friday night at Midway Stadium in front of 4,028.

Saints starter Wes Roemer was masterful and after allowing back-to-back singles to Yesanberty Arbelo and Jaren Matthews in the second inning the Jackals never reached base again. Roemer retired 17 straight before departing after the seventh inning. In all, Roemer went 7.0 innings allowing one unearned on three hits while striking out seven. The Saints top two starters have gone 14.0 innings allowing just three runs (two earned) and striking out 15.

The bullpen did its job as well with Connor Whalen and Mikey Mehlich each pitching a perfect inning of relief.

With the Saints trailing 1-0 the offense got Roemer all the run support he would need in the fourth. Brad Boyer walked with one out and moved to second on a single by Craig Brazell. Willie Cabrera then hit a grounder into the hole between short and third which was stopped on a backhanded play by Jeremy Barnes at short, but he had no play. With the bases loaded Brandon Tripp knocked home Boyer to tie the game at one. Jose Hernandez then lined a sacrifice fly into center scoring Brazell to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth the Saints put the finishing touches on the scoring as Dwight Childs led off with an infield single. Dan Kaczrowski, who finished the night 3-5 with a run scored, doubled Childs to third. Joey Becker followed with a sacrifice line out to give the Saints a 3-1 lead. Boyer doubled home Kaczrowski to make it 4-1 and three batters later Brandon Tripp added his second RBI with a single to center to cap off the scoring. Tripp finished the night 2-4 with two RBI.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium in game three of the four game series. The Saints send RHP Luke Anderson (NR) to the mound against Jackals LHP Craig Bennigson (NR). The Saints Celebrate Women in Sports with the record-setting University of Minnesota women’s hockey team in attendance.
