    1. May 18 Free Family Movie Night at Peace Lutheran
      6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

      Peace Lutheran Church (400 Franklin Street SW) in Hutchinson will have its free family movie night on Friday, May 18th, beginning at 6:30 PM. The movie for this month is “Dumbo.” Come enjoy the movie as well as some free popcorn and lemonade.

    1. May19 DQ Run to benefit Foundation for Challenged Children
      8:00 am – 6:00 pm

      The 20th Annual Dairy Queen Run, benefiting the Foundation for Challenged Children, will be on Saturday, May 19th, rain or shine. Get your motorcycle or classic car to the Dairy Queen in Hutchinson (46 Main Street North) for registration between 8:00 -10:00 AM, and be ready to go by 10:00 AM sharp. This year’s run will feature stops at Apol’s Harley Davidson in Raymond, the Dairy Queen in Spicer, Mies Outland in Watkins, and will end at the Kingston Community Center in Kingston, where the Kingston Lions will be serving a pork chop dinner from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. A $10.00 donation per rider/driver includes a ticket to the pork chop dinner. A $20.00 donation per vehicle (motorcycle or car) includes a ticket to the pork chop dinner and a raffle ticket. You may also just attend the pork chop dinner. The cost is $8.00.

    2. May 19 Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter Pet Walk
      9:00 am – 12:00 pm

      The Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter’s annual Paws on Parade Pet Walk will be on Saturday, May 19th, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds (840 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson.  Registration will begin at 9:00 AM and the walk will begin at 10:00 AM.  Pledge forms are available at the shelter, at many participating businesses throughout the county, and online at www.heartofminnesota.org.

    3. Studebaker Day at Pioneer Park
      1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      Pioneer Park (725 Pioneer Park Trail) of Annandale invites you to Studebaker Day on Saturday, May 19th, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.  Joining the Studebaker Club will be the Wright County Car Club of Buffalo and the Model T Ford Antique Club of St. Cloud.  Museum buildings will be open to tour during the events and you can even enjoy a free ride around the park in a Model T.  Ice cream, root beer floats and hot dogs will be available for you to enjoy, too.  The cost is $5.00 for adults, with children admitted free when accompanied by an adult.  For more information, call 320-274-8489 or visit www.pioneerpark.org.

    4. D-C Community Theatre Auditions for “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”
      2:00 pm – 6:30 pm

      Auditions for Dassel-Cokato Community Theatre’s production of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” are scheduled for Saturday, May 19th, beginning at 2:00 PM, and on Monday, May 21st, beginning at 6:30 PM. Auditions will be in the Choir Room of Dassel-Cokato High School (4852 Reardon Avenue SW). The cast requires 14 men and 7 women, plus assorted townspeople. For the audition, prepare and bring a song that demonstrates your vocal range. An accompanist will be available. Performance dates are July 19th, 20th, 28th and 29th. If you’re unable to attend either audition but would still like to be part of the production, please call Colleen at D-C Community Education at 320-286-4120.

    1. May 20 Bouja & Chicken Noodle Soup Sale
      8:30 am – 12:00 pm

      The monthly Bouja & Chicken Noodle Soup Sale at St. Anthony’s Church (170 Central Avenue S.) in Watkins is on Sunday, May 20th, with sale hours from 8:30 AM – noon. Bouja is priced at $11.00 per gallon and chicken noodle soup is $10.00 per gallon.

    2. May 20 Cedar Mills Rod & Gun Club Pancake Brunch
      9:00 am – 12:00 pm

      You and your family are invited to the Cedar Mills Rod & Gun Club (62841 140th Street) for their monthly pancake brunch on Sunday, May 20th, with serving from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Enjoy all-you-care-to-eat regular and potato pancakes, French toast, scramble eggs and more. The cost is $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 6 – 12 years of age, and those 5 and younger eat for free. The Cedar Mills Rod & Gun Club is located near the intersection of State Highways 7 and 22 northeast of Cedar Mills .

    3. May 20 Freedom Walkers Sponsoring Dad’s Belgian Waffles
      9:30 am – 12:30 pm

      The Freedom Walkers Relay for Life Team is sponsoring Dad’s Belgian Waffles on Sunday, May 20th, from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the Fire Hall (550 Prior Street) in Stewart.  Enjoy waffles, sausages, flavored syrups and more, all for a free will donation with all proceeds going toward the McLeod County Relay for Life.  It’s all you can eat with carry out orders available!

    4. May 20 Community Bingo at Ecumen Oaks & Pines
      2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      Area seniors are invited to play Community Bingo on Sunday, May 20th, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Dining Room at the Ecumen Oaks & Pines (1015 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson. The cost is 25 cents per card for each regular game. The last game will be a “cover all” game and will be $1.00 per card, winner takes all. Coffee and snacks will follow the fun! In June, Community Bingo will resume its regular schedule on the second Sunday of each month. For more information, contact Jane Messner at 320-234-0868.

    5. Tastefully Simple(R) BBQ Fundraiser
      2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      Rich and Jackie Pohlmeier will host a Tastefully Simple® barbecue fundraiser for three family members – Florine Koning (Rich’s sister), Lynnda Chatfield (Jackie’s sister) and John Slyter (Jackie’s brother) – all of whom have been undergoing treatment for cancer. The event will be on Sunday, May 20th, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM, at the Pohlmeier’s residence (230 Ford Street) in Biscay. The cost is a free will donation. To help with the food arrangements, they would appreciate an RSVP to simply.jackie@hotmail.com if you plan to attend.

    1. GSL 9-12 Spring Band Concert
      8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      The GSL High School Music Department will present its annual grades 9-12 Spring Band Concert on Monday, May 21st, beginning at 8:00 PM.  The concert will feature the Ninth Grade Band, as well as the GSL Symphonic Band.  There will also be many band awards announced that evening.  The cost is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students.  The concert will be at the GSL High School Auditorium (1621 East 16th Street) in Glencoe.

    1. HLWW Community Theatre Auditions
      12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

      Auditions for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Community Theatre’s production of “Brigadoon” are scheduled for Tuesday, May 22nd, and Thursday, May 24th, at HLWW High School (8700 County Road 6 SW). Men and women ages 5 to 105 are welcome to audition. Auditions will consist of a short prepared song of your choosing (accompanist provided) and cold readings from the script. In addition to the cast, musicians (pit), lighting, sound, technical crew, set, costume, marketing and volunteer help are needed. Performances will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 13th – 15th.       6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      If you are a relative caring for children which are not your own, you’re invited to join the Hutchinson Early Childhood and Family Education program for a get together on Tuesday, May 22nd, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at their building located at 775 School Road South. There will be activities for the children, pizza for dinner, and information about building a group in Hutchinson where you can gather for information, resources and support.     1. May 20 Willmar Car Club Show & Swap Meet

      The Willmar Car Club will host its 32nd Annual Car Show & Swap Meet on Sunday, May 20th, from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The event will be at the Kennedy School (824 7th Street SW) in Willmar.       5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

      Bethlehem United Methodist Church (665 Miller Avenue SW) of Hutchinson is offering a free supper to anyone in the community on Friday, May 25th, with serving from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. Future suppers will be served on the fourth Friday of each month.     1. May 26 Corvettes for a Cause Car Show
      1:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      The Crow River Corvettes Club will present its Corvettes for a Cause Car Show on Saturday, May 26th, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, in Library Square (50 Hassan Street), downtown Hutchinson. The rain location will be Burich Arena (950 Harrington Street SW). Part of the fun will be Sherwin Linton in concert that night from 7:00 – 10:00 PM at Burich Arena. The doors will open at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and are available at the Hutchinson Eagles Club, the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce, Squeaky’s Bar & Grill, Lamplighter II Sports Bar, American Legion Post 96, or from any Crow River Corvettes Club member.     1. Cosmos American Legion Memorial Day Program

      Join the Cosmos American Legion (100 East Astro Boulevard) on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th, as they honor and remember all who have died for our freedom. This year’s program will feature special guest speaker Larry Tillemans, a clerk typist at the Nuremberg and Dachau war crime trials. The program will begin at 11:00 AM and will be followed by a potluck meal.

    1. Community Breakfast at Bethlehem United Methodist Church

      Bethlehem United Methodist Church (665 Miller Ave SW) in Hutchinson is offering a free, hot breakfast from 8:30 – 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 9th. Everyone is welcome, and while there is no cost, they would appreciate it if you would contact the church (call 320-587-3312) to let them know how many will be attending. You may also pick up a ticket at Common Cup Ministry’s office (218 Main Street South) in Hutchinson. The free breakfast is served on the second Saturday of each month.

    2. June 9 June Dairy Celebration at Wilkommen Heritage Center
      10:00 am – 2:00 pm

      Celebrate June Dairy Month at the Wilkommen Heritage Center (102 E. Main Street) in Norwood Young America on Saturday, June 9th, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, as they host “A Taste of Cheese & Milk.” Stop in and sample and, as always, the event is free. In addition, the Center will host displays about Oak Grove Dairy and Bongards Creamery, which will be available to view the entire month of June. For special tours, call 952-467-4227.

    3. June 9 LHS Technology Class Home Auction
      10:00 am – 5:00 pm

      The 13th Annual Litchfield High School Technology Class’s Home Auction will be on Saturday, June 9th, beginning at 10:00 AM. The 1680 square foot home includes three bedrooms, 1½ baths, laundry room, vaulted ceiling in dining room and much more. Open house dates are May 21st, 30th, and 31st, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, or by appointment with instructors. The home is located directly behind the Litchfield High School (901 North Gilman Avenue).

    1. June 13 Waverly American Legion to host Larry Tillemans
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      Waverly American Legion Post #305 will host former U.S. Army Sgt. Larry Tillemans on Wednesday, June 13, beginning at 7:00 PM at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Middle School Auditorium (801 8th Avenue) in Howard Lake.  Sgt. Tillemans was a clerk typist during the Nuremberg and Dachau War Crime Trials.  There will also be a free sloppy joe dinner for all attendees starting at 6:00 PM.

    1. June 20 McLeod County Chapter of Thrivent Summer Picnic

      The McLeod County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutheran will have its Summer Picnic on Wednesday, June 20th, at 6:00 PM in the North Shelter of Lake Marion Park (11655 State Highway 15), located between Brownton and Hutchinson. Chicken, beverages and dinnerware will be provided. You are asked to bring along a dish to pass. There are some picnic tables on the grounds, bring along lawn chairs and tables if you desire. The rain location for the picnic will be Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson (400 Franklin Street SW).
