    1. November 17 Fundraiser for Sibley (County) Special Olympics
      9:30 am – 10:30 am

      The Sibley (County) Sonics Special Olympics MN delegation is hosting an Open House Scentsy Party on Saturday, November 17th, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (101 West Chandler) in Arlington from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Scentsy’s Charitable Cause Warmer for this season is Special Olympics. Each warmer sold will benefit no only the local delegation but also Special Olympics International. You may also go online and place your order at  https://barbarab.scentsy.us, then look for Sibley Sonics in the list of parties. Proceeds will help provide more sports for Sibley County Special Olympians and take athletes to the Minnesota Special Olympics Competitions.

    2. November 17 BL Lions Dad’s Belgian Waffle Benefit Brunch
      10:00 am – 1:00 pm

      The Buffalo Lake Lions Club is sponsoring a Dad’s Belgian Waffle Benefit Brunch on Saturday, November 17th. The benefit will be at the Buffalo Lake Community Center (203 Main Street North) from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The cost is a free will offering, with proceeds benefiting college student Aryel Smith, who lost both of her parents to cancer this year, and to the Renville County Food Shelf which is recovering from a fire earlier this year.

    3. November 17 Benefit for Kelly (Bahr) Buechler
      2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      The Litchfield VFW (915 Highway 12 East) will host a benefit for Kelly (Bahr) Buechler on Saturday, November 17th, beginning at 2:00 PM. Kelly was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008 and was in remission until this spring when the cancer returned affecting her liver and abdomen. She will be undergoing extensive treatment and proceeds from the benefit will help the family with its financial burden. The benefit will include a spaghetti dinner (beginning at 2:00 PM… $8.00 per ticket), raffles, bake sale, face painting and entertainment with Tasz begining at 8:00 PM.

    4. November 17 Hector United Methodist Church Christmas Bazaar
      2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      The United Methodist Church (300 2nd Street West) in Hector will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 17th, starting at 2:00 PM. They’ll feature Christmas items, hand sewn goods, homemade candy, cookies, and baked goods, and country store items. Layer cake and coffee cake will be served for your refreshment.

    1. November 18 Dad’s Belgian Waffles Sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran (NYA)
      9:00 am – 12:30 pm

      Dad’s Belgian Waffles Sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran (NYA) – November 18th
      St. John’s Lutheran Church and School (27 1st Street NW) in Norwood Young America is sponsoring a Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast on Sunday, November 18th, in the school gymnasium.  Serving will be from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM with carry out orders available.  Adult tickets are $8.00 ($7.00 in advance), children ages 6 – 12 can eat for $5.00 and kids ages 5 and younger eat for free.  Advance adult tickets are available from St. John’s LWML or St. John’s Youth Group.  Proceeds will benefit the LWML mission projects and the trip to the San Antonio Youth Gathering in 2013.

    2. November 18 McLeod County Sheriff’s Office Explorers Program
      7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office invites youth ages 14 – 18 (must have finished 8th grade) to attend their Explorers Program on Sunday, November 18th, from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at the McLeod County Solid Waste Building (1065 5th Avenue SE) in Hutchinson.  The program offers young men and women the chance to explore law enforcement career opportunities.  For more information, contact Deputy Patrick Geiken at  320-864-1368  or by email at patrick.geiken@co.mcleod.mn.us.

      St. John’s Lutheran Church (410 1st Street North) in Winsted will host a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd. The traditional holiday meal will be served from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The cost is a food or cash donation to the McLeod County Emergency Food Shelf.

    1. November 25 Monthly Potato Pancake Breakfast at Hutchinson VFW

      Hutchinson VFW Post 906 (247 1st Avenue SE) invites you to its monthly Potato Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, November 25th, with serving from 9:00 AM – noon. Enjoy all you can eat pancakes, ham, sausages and fruit for only $8.00. The breakfast is served on the fourth Sunday of each month.

    1. November 26 & 28 Bloodmobile in McLeod County

      The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be two McLeod County communities the week of November 26th. On Monday, November 26th, the Bloodmobile will be at the Lester Prairie City Hall (37 Juniper Street) from 1:00 – 7:00 PM. Then on Wednesday, November 28th, the Bloodmobile will be at the Glencoe City Center (1107 11th Street), also from 1:00 – 7:00 PM. If you’re at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental/guardian’s permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health, you’re encouraged to donate.

    2. November 26 Harmony River Living Center Auxiliary Meeting

      The next meeting of the Harmony River Living Center Auxiliary will be on Monday, November 26th, beginning at 2:00 PM in the Lower Level Conference Room at Harmony River Living Center (1555 Sherwood Street SE) in Hutchinson. All member are encouraged to attend.

      Help an Autistic Child in the area this Christmas by donating your old worn out jeans. Just bring your jeans (in any condition, doesn’t matter how rough looking they are) to the KDUZ/KARP/KTWN Studios in care of Joel Niemeyer. All Jeans will be donated to the group Deen’s Blankets out of Grove City. Deen’s makes weighted blankets out of the old jeans to give to autistic children free of charge. Weighted blankets help an autistic child calm down, but going through a store can sometimes cost hundreds of dollars. Every single part of the jeans will be used, even the leftover scraps that can’t be use for blankets get donated to a group that can make insulation out of it for low income housing.     2. November 30 Crow River Singers Concerts

      The Crow River Singers will present their winter concerts on Friday, November 30th, and Sunday, December 2nd. The Friday performance will be at the First Congregational United Church of Christ (31 4th Avenue SW) in Hutchinson beginning at 7:00 PM. The Sunday performance will be at Peace Lutheran Church (400 Franklin Street SW) in Hutchinson beginning at 2:00 PM. Admission is $7.00 per person with children under the age of 12 admitted for free.

    1. December 1 “Reason for the Season” Advent Brunch
      8:15 am – 10:00 am

      Everyone is welcome to join the women of St John’s Lutheran Church (625 12th Avenue) in Howard Lake for “The Reason for the Season” Advent Brunch on Saturday, December 1st. The doors will open at 8:15 AM for the country store. The advent program will start at 9:00 AM and serving for the brunch will begin at 10:00 AM.

    2. December 1 Christmas at Trinity
      9:00 am – 12:00 pm

      Trinity Lutheran Church (54384 Highway 12 East) in Grove City invites you to its 19th Annual Christmas at Trinity on Saturday, December 1st, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. This year’s event will feature a cookie walk (cookies priced at $3.50/dozen), candies, baked goods, ethnic favorites including lefse, quilts, rugs, cards, napkins and other crafts. Brunch will also be served. The cost for the brunch is $7.00 for adults ($7.00 for takeout orders as well) and $3.00 for children 10 years of age and younger. If you just want a snack, you can get coffee and a roll for $2.00.

    3. December 1 Holiday Fair at St. John’s Lutheran (Annandale)
      9:00 am – 1:00 pm

      St. John’s Lutheran Church (331 Harrison Street W) of Annandale is hosting a Holiday Fair on Saturday, December 1st, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Shop for bakery items, craft items, unique treasures, collectibles and antiques. New to this year’s bakery items and sold on site, fresh made lefse! Lunch will be available, with a menu featuring sloppy joes, sweet rolls, pie, coffee and milk. Proceeds from the event will go toward charitable projects.

    4. December 1 11th Annual Trees & Traditions
      9:30 am – 3:00 pm

      Christ the King Lutheran Church (1040 South Grade Road) in Hutchinson will host the 11th Annual Christmas Trees & Traditions, “The Bells of Christmas,” on Saturday, December 1st, from 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Come and view the decorated trees, table settings, collections, quilts, and period wedding dresses. There will be music performances, lefse and krumkaka demonstration, and you’re invited to share a light lunch with friends (available from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM) and shop at the Country Cupboard and the Bake Shoppe. The cost is a free will offering.

    5. December 1 Pioneer Park’s Pioneer Christmas
      12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      You and your family are invited join in the warmth and cheer of Minnesota Pioneer Park’s “Pioneer Christmas” with free admission on Saturday, December 1st, from 12:00  – 3:00 PM.  You can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, toast marshmallows by the bon fire, enjoy free cider, coffee and cocoa, and even go on a horse drawn wagon ride!  They’ll also be selling holiday baked goods and crafts.  Minnesota Pioneer Park is located at 725 Pioneer Park Trail, along Minnesota State Highway 55, just east of Annandale.

    1. Drive-by Living Nativity
      5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

      The Sibley County Fairgrounds in Arlington will host a Drive-by Living Nativity on Sunday, December 2nd, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Actors and live animals will portray the events leading to Christ’s birth. The cost is a cash or non-perishable food item donation for the Sibley County Food Shelf. Please note that if the Arli-Dazzle Parade that evening is postponed due to weather, the Living Nativity will begin at 7:00 PM. Upon entering the Fairgrounds, tune your radio to 104.9 FM.

    1. December 3 Sibley (County) Sonics Tip Night at Pizza Ranch
      4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      Come out and support the Sibley (County) Sonics Special Olympics delegation by eating at the Pizza Ranch (2409 9th Street East) in Glencoe on Monday, December 3rd, between 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Proceeds will go towards assisting athletes with tournament fees and provide additional sports.

    1. December 8 All Saints Lutheran Church Christmas Craft & Bake Sale
      8:30 am – 1:00 pm

      All Saints Lutheran Church (118 North 1st Street) in Darwin is having a Christmas Craft & Bake Sale with a luncheon and basket raffle on Saturday, December 8th, from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, including a lefse making demonstration beginning at 8:30 AM. The luncheon, featuring barbecue sandwiches, chips and dip, fruit, veggies, a dessert and beverages, will be served from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The cost for the luncheon is $6.00 for everyone over the age of 10, and $3.00 for children 10 years of age and younger.

    2. December 8 Free Community Breakfast at Bethlehem United Methodist Church
      8:30 am – 9:30 am

      Bethlehem United Methodist Church (665 Miller Ave SW) in Hutchinson is offering a  free, hot breakfast from 8:30 – 9:30  AM on Saturday, December 8th.  Everyone is welcome, and while there is no cost, they would appreciate it if you would contact the church (call  320-587-3312 )  to let them know how many will be attending.  You may also pick up a ticket at Common Cup Ministry’s office (218 Main Street South) in Hutchinson.  The free breakfast is served on the second Saturday of each month.

    3. December 8 St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Hector) Cookie Walk
      8:30 am – 11:00 am

      St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (500 Cedar Avenue East) in Hector will have its 16th Annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 8th, from 8:30 – 11:00 AM or until the goodies are gone. The cookie walk will feature traditional and fancy cookies, plus homemade lefse and candles. Proceeds will go to elevator maintenance and the church flooring project.

    4. December 8 Bake Sale & Chili Luncheon at Prairie Community Church
      11:00 am – 1:30 pm

      Prairie Community Church (700 1st Avenue North) in Lester Prairie is having a Bake Sale & Chili Luncheon on Saturday, December 8th, from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM. It’s the easy way to get your holiday baking done and you’ll enjoy the chili luncheon, featuring chili, egg salad sandwiches, cake, milk and coffee.

      First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cosmos will have its Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 8th, at the Cosmos American Legion (100 East Astro Boulevard) in Cosmos. The hours for the bazaar will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

    1. December 9 Community Bingo at Ecumen Oaks & Pines

      Area seniors are invited to play Community Bingo on Sunday, December 9th, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Dining Room at the Ecumen Oaks & Pines (1015 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson. The cost is 25 cents per card for each regular game. The last game will be a “cover all” game and will be $1.00 per card, winner takes all. Coffee and snacks will follow the fun!     2. December 9 Compassionate Friends Remembrance Candle Lighting
      7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      The Hutchinson Area Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, an organization offering grief support after the death of a child, will host its 11th Annual Remembrance Candle Lighting on Sunday, December 9th, at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel (899 Highway 15 S) in Hutchinson, beginning at 7:00 PM. The event is open to anyone who would like to come and light a candle in remembrance of a child who has died too soon, whether it be your own child, or that of a neighbor, co-worker, relative or friend. The local event is happening in conjunction with the Compassionate Friends worldwide candle lighting. Refreshments and a time of sharing will follow. For more information, call Jo at 320-833-2300 .

    1. December 11 – 13 Sibley County Santa’s Helper Gift Distribution
      8:00 am – 5:00 pm

      The Santa’s Helpers program in Sibley County will have its 2012 Gift Distribution on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, December 11th, 12th and 13th at American Lutheran Church (911 8th Street) in Gaylord.  Each child will be presented with a gift valued at $20.00, a pair of mittens and a hat.
