    1. September 18 Caregiver Support Group Meeing
      1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

      The next meeting of the Renville County Hospice Caregiver Support Group will be on Tuesday, September 18th, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM in the Willette Room of RC Hospital & Clinics in Olivia. The focus for this month’s meeting will be a presentation by Karen providing information on a program regarding special telephones for those who have difficulty hearing. She will also be a resource from the Minnesota Department of Human Services programs for the hearing impaired. The meeting is free of charge, and there will be time for discussion and support.     1. September 20 Bloodmobile in Brownton
      2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Brownton on Thursday, September 20th, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM at the Brownton Community Center (310 2nd Street North). If you are at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental/guardian’s consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health, you’re encouraged to donate.

    1. September 22 & 23 Hutchinson Elks Gun Show (all-day)
      Sep 22 – Sep 23

      The Hutchinson Elks Club 31st Annual Gun Show will be Saturday and Sunday, September 22nd and 23rd, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds (840 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson. This year’s show will feature over 320 tables of guns, knives, and coins. Saturday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Sunday’s hours will be from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Admission is $3.00.

    2. September 22 Equinox Festival
      8:30 am – 9:30 am

      The McLeod/Meeker County Area Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) invites you to the Equinox Festival on Saturday, September 22nd, beginning at 8:00 AM at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. The event will begin with breakfast from 8:00 – 10:30 AM, served by the Litchfield United Methodist Church. The flea market will be from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, bingo from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, a Car, Truck and Motorcycle show starting at 11:30 AM, “Chopper – The World’s Nuttiest DJ” begins at noon, and a Minni-Rod Tractor Pull starting at 2:00 PM. Vendors, crafters and garage salers are all needed for the flea market, as are participants for the Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show.     1. September 23 Country Gospel Worship Service at Peace Lutheran Church (Cosmos)
      10:00 am – 11:00 am

      Peace Lutheran Church (140 Saturn Street) of Cosmos presents a special Country Gospel Worship Service on Sunday, September 23rd, beginning at 10:00 AM. The service will feature music by The Prairie Rose Band. Following the service, there will be a meal featuring roast turkey sandwiches, potato salad, chips, pickles, ice cream sundaes and floats. The cost for the meal is a free will offering. Everyone is welcome!

    2. September 23 Concert To Benefit McLeod Emergency Food Shelf
      4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

      First Evangelical Lutheran Church (925 13th Street East) in Glencoe will host a free concert, featuring the bluegrass music of the Kingery Family, to benefit the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf on Sunday, September 23rd, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket for the outdoor performance. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside. If you are able, please bring a donation for the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf.

      St. John Lutheran Church (17725 53rd Street) of Hollywood Township is having a rummage sale Thursday – Saturday, September 27th – 29th. Thursday’s and Friday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Saturday is “Bag Day,” fill a bag of selected items for only $5.00. The sale will be in the church basement and in the tents on the back lawn.

    1. September 29 Nobel Shadduck Harvest Festival at Pioneer Park
      11:00 am – 4:00 pm

      Minnesota Pioneer Park (725 Pioneer Trail), located just east of Annandale along Highway 55, invites you to the Nobel Shadduck Harvest Festival Concert and 40th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, September 29th, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. There will be live music from 12:00 – 1:30 PM by Phyllis Hummel and Her Swingin’ Country Band. At 2:00 PM, a reception will take place celebrating Pioneer Park’s 40th Anniversary. There will be old-fashioned demonstrations, a Civil War camp, hay wagon rides along the park, children’s activities in the one-room school house, and the Pioneer Kitchen will be open serving its famous buffalo burgers and old fashioned brats. Admission is $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, and $4.00 for students and free for children under the age of 5.     2. September 29 Humane Society Fundraiser at DWP Outreach Center
      1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

      The “Developing Winning Personalities” (DWP) Outreach Center (60755 205th Street) near Litchfield will host a Humane Society Adopt A Dog Fundraiser on Saturday, September 29th, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. Dogs will be available for adoption to good families that day, and they’ll be educating families on how to take care of their dog as well as showing the different activities families can do with their dog. Some of the activities offered during the event will include rock climbing, train rides, a petting zoo, 10-hole mini-golf, and a puppet show introducing the next Jan & Jenny book, “How Lucky Am I?,” a story about an abused dog that finds a good home. The cost for the entire day is $35.00, with tickets available at these Hutchinson businesses: Animal Medical Center on Crow River, the office of State Farm Agent Kim Kotzer, Hutchinson Pet Hospital and Runnings.

    3. September 25 Firearms Safety Class at Gopher Campfire
      6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      Gopher Campfire, located northeast of Hutchinson (24718 County Road 7), will offer a three-session firearms safety course beginning September 25th. Sessions will be on Tuesday, September 25th (6:00 – 9:00 PM), Saturday, October 6th (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM lunch provided), and Sunday, October 18th (12:30 – 5:00 PM). Participants must be at least 11 years of age and must attend all three sessions. The cost is $15.00 per student ($7.50 to Gopher Campfire payable at first class, and $7.50 to MNDNR upon completion of class). Class size is limited, so a reservation is required.     1. September 30 Old Fashioned Sing-A-Long at Our Savior’s Lutheran
      3:30 am – 4:30 am

      Join the congregation of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (800 Bluff Street NE) in Hutchinson on Sunday, September 30th, at 3:30 PM for an Old Fashioned Sing-A-Long.  The music will include hymn favorites, patriotic songs, American standards and folk songs.  Refreshments and snacks will follow the singing.

    2. September 30 – Plato Lions Pork Chop Dinner
      10:30 am – 12:30 pm

      The Plato Lions invite you to a Pork Chop Dinner on Sunday, September 30th, at the the Plato Community Hall (120 1st Street NE). Serving will be from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM. The meal will feature pork chops, cheesy hash browns, green beans, applesauce, cookies and beverages. The cost is $8.50 for adults, $6.50 for kids between the ages of 5 – 12, and free for children 4 years of age and younger.

    3. September 30 DCAA to host Cirque Zuma Zuma
      2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      The Dassel-Cokato Arts Association will host Cirque Zuma Zuma, a 2011 “America’s Got Talent” finalist, on Sunday September 30th, beginning at 2:00 PM at the Dassel-Cokato High School Performing Arts Center (4852 Reardon Avenue SW). Tickets are available online at  www.dc.k12.mn.us/pac and are also sold through the D-C Community Education office by calling 320-286-4120 . Tickets are priced at $15.00 for adults and $7.00 for youth (high school students and under. Space permitting, tickets may also be available at the door beginning at 1:00 PM the day of the performance.

    1. October 2 Grieving Together Support Series
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      “Grieving Together” Grief Information and Support Series will take place Tuesday evenings (Oct. 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th) during the month of October at the Renville County Hospital and Clinics Willette Room (611 East Fairview Avenue) in Olivia. Each session will be from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Admission is free. Donations accepted. This is for anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one.       The Dorcas Mission Salad Luncheon at Peace Lutheran Church’s Peace Center (400 Franklin Street SW) in Hutchinson will be on Thursday, October 4th, with serving from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The menu will feature hot chicken salad, hot German potato salad, deviled eggs and more. The cost for the luncheon is $8.00 per person.

    2. October 4 United Lutheran Church Fall Festival

      United Lutheran Church (811 Lakeview Street) of Lake Lillian is hosting its Fall Festival on Thursday, October 4th. The Bake, Craft & Produce Sale will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, with a Meatball Supper served from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. The menu will include meatballs, potatoes, coleslaw, vegetable, rolls, desserts and a beverage. The cost is $8.00 for adults, $3.00 for children ages 6 – 12, and free for kids 5 years of age and younger.

    3. October 4 Legion Auxiliary Spaghetti Supper
      4:30 pm – 7:00 pm

      The Hutchinson American Legion Auxiliary will serve its monthly spaghetti supper on Thursday, October 4th, from 4:30 – 7:00 PM in the American Legion Post 96 Commander’s Room (please use east entrance). The cost is $6.50 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 years of age and younger. All suppers are open to the public, families are welcome and take out orders will be available. Suppers are served the first Thursday of each month October through May. The Hutchinson American Legion is located at 35 3rd Avenue SE.

    1. October 9 Memory Loss Caregiver Support Group
      6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      The next meeting of a local area support group for adult children, spouses, and friends caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory loss will be on Tuesday, October 9th, beginning at 6:00 PM at First Lutheran Church (925 13th Street East) in Glencoe. The group meets the second Tuesday of every month, is open to the public and is free of charge.     2. October 9 Bras for a Cause at HCA

      The Hutchinson Breast Cancer Support Group and the Hutchinson Center for the Arts (HCA) are teaming up to show support for women with breast cancer.  Decorated bras are on display at the HCA (15 Franklin Street SW) through October 9th, The public is asked to donate $1.00 per vote and vote for their favorite entries!  All donations will go to the local breast cancer support group to help offer support to women who are fighting this disease.  On October 9th, the winners will be announced.  The public is invited to attend the Bras for a Cause Reception at 7:00 PM on the 9th and bid on the winning bras which will be auctioned off that night.  For more information, check out www.HutchinsonArts.org.

You may also pick up a ticket at Common Cup Ministry’s office (218 Main Street South) in Hutchinson. The free breakfast is served on the second Saturday of each month.

    2. October 13 Brunch and Special Program at Christ the King Lutheran
      9:00 am – 11:30 am

      Christ the King Lutheran Church (1040 South Grade Road) in Hutchinson invites you to a brunch and special program from 9:00 – 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 13th. The special program will be a narration from Ann Zemke telling the story of her grandmother, Marjorie Peterson, an orphan train rider, through blocks on the quilt Ann made in memory of Marjorie’s life. Ann will autograph her book, “They Named Me Marjorie”, following her presentation. A free-will offering will be taken. Ann Zemke, owner of Crocus Lane Quilts in Blaine, MN has made over 150 quilts and teaches quilting.

      Hutchinson Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is hosting a Relatives as Caregivers event at the ECFE Building (775 School Road South) on Monday, October 15th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. This event is for all grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends who are doing full time care for children who are not their own. There will be a pizza supper and childcare.     1. October 20 Benefit for the Family of Nathan DeBolt
      8:30 am – 9:30 am

      A benefit for the family of Nathan DeBolt, who passed away in August at age 33 from a severe asthma attack, is planned for Saturday, October 20th, in Cokato. Nathan left behind his wife Myndy and three children. The benefit will consist of a Zumbathon from 1:00 – 2:30 PM at the Cokato Elementary School Gymnasium, a spaghetti dinner and silent auction from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church (280 3rd Street East), and then more fun at the Iron Horse Saloon beginning at 7:00 PM. Proceeds from the benefit will assist the family with their financial needs. If you’re unable to attend but would like to donate, a fund has been set up at First National Bank of Cokato. Most items will be priced at 25¢. Winter coats/jackets will be priced at $1.00 each. Friday will be $2.00 bag day. You’ll find a little bit of everything at this sale – clothing/shoes of all sizes/all seasons, household/miscellaneous items, jewelry, baby items, toys, games, books, magazines, bedding, miscellaneous furniture, pet items and more. Wednesday’s and Thursday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Friday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Everything will be priced to sell.
