    1. August 10 – 12 103rd Annual Gopher Campfire Outing
      5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

      The 103rd Annual Gopher Campfire Outing will be Friday through Sunday, August 10th -

      12th, on Lake Byron (7 miles north of Hutchinson). It kicks off Friday evening at 5:00 PM with

      the Minne-Rods Pull, followed by music from “The Rhythm Kings” starting at 8:30 PM. On

      Saturday, there are sporting clays, trap shooting, a steak fry from 5:00 – 8:00 PM (cost is $10.00) and more live music from “The Rhythm Kings.” Sunday’s events include a ham

      dinner from noon – 2:00 PM, a pedal pull starting at 2:00 PM, and the turtle races at 3:00 PM.

    1. August 11 Free Community Breakfast at Bethlehem United Methodist Church
      8:30 am – 10:00 am

      Bethlehem United Methodist Church (665 Miller Ave SW) in Hutchinson is offering a free, hot breakfast from 8:30 – 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 11th. Everyone is welcome, and while there is no cost, they would appreciate it if you would contact the church (call 320-587-3312 ) to let them know how many will be attending. You may also pick up a ticket at Common Cup Ministry’s office (218 Main Street South) in Hutchinson. The free breakfast is served on the second Saturday of each month.

    2. August 11 Beckville Lutheran Men’s Club Pork Chop Supper
      4:30 pm – 7:00 pm

      The Men’s Club of Beckville Lutheran Church will serve its 3rd Annual Grilled Pork Chop Supper on Saturday, August 11th, from 4:30 – 7:00 PM at the Beckville Picnic Grounds on Lake Minnie Belle. In addition to the supper, there will be music by the Jerry Kahle Quartet. The Beckville Sunday School students will also be selling root beer floats for just $1.00. The cost is $9.00 for adults, $4.50 for kids ages 6 – 12, and children 5 years of age and younger eat for free. In case of rain, the supper will be at Beckville Lutheran Church (20521 600th Avenue), rural Litchfield.

    3. August 11 4th Annual BARK Kickball & Beanbag Tournament
      5:45 pm – 6:45 pm

      Brownton Area Resources for Kids (BARK) invites you to participate in the 4th Annual Kickball & Beanbag Tournament on Saturday, August 11th.  The day will begin with a 5K Fun Run/Walk.  The entry fee is $20.00, including a t-shirt.  At 9:00 AM, there’s a ½ mile fun run, free to all children ages 12 and younger.  You can pre-register your child(ren) for the fun run by sending an email to Steff at gronlund@hutchtel.net.  The kickball tournament will begin at 9:00 AM.  The cost for the kickball tournament is $130.00 per team.  The beanbag tournament will begin at 10:30 AM with an entry fee of $30.00.  Activities (all free) for the kids throughout the day include a scavenger hunt at 10:00 AM, a kickball tournament at noon, Clown Town from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, and pony rides from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.  If you would like to pre-register a team for the kickball and beanbag tournaments, call Shannon or Michele at 320-328-4239.

    1. August 12 Community Bingo at Ecumen Oaks & Pines
      2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      Area seniors are invited to play Community Bingo on Sunday, August 12th, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Dining Room at the Ecumen Oaks & Pines (1015 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson. The cost is 25 cents per card for each regular game. The last game will be a “cover all” game and will be $1.00 per card, winner takes all. Coffee and snacks will follow the fun!     1. August 13 Plato Lions Golf Tournament
      11:00 am – 12:00 pm

      The Plato Lions annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, August 13th, at Glencoe Country Club (1325 1st Street East), with registration beginning at 11:00 AM and a shotgun start at 1:00 PM. The tournament is an 18-hole four-person scramble format. The cost is $40.00 for Glencoe Country Club members using their own carts, $50.00 for Glencoe Country Club members using club carts, and $60.00 for non-members. Entry fee includes dinner and prizes. Registration fees will increase by $10.00 per foursome after August 6th. To register, contact Ken at 320-238-2370 . All proceeds will support the Plato Lions local projects.

    1. August 14 HHS Girls’ Tennis Fundraiser (all-day)
      Aug 14

      Support the Hutchinson High School Girls’ Tennis team by enjoying a Papa Murphy’s pizza on Tuesday, August 14th. Papa Murphy’s (1380 Highway 15 South) of Hutchinson will contribute a portion of the day’s sales to the Girls’ Tennis program.

    2. August 14 Bloodmobile at Peace Lutheran Church
      12:00 pm – 6:00 pm

      The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Peace Center (400 Glen Street SW) of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson on Tuesday, August 14th, from noon – 6:00 PM. If you’re at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental/guardian permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health, you’re encouraged to donate.     1. August 16 BL-H Area Lutheran Youth Drive-Up or Sit-In
      5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (228 5th Street NW) in Buffalo Lake will host the Buffalo Lake-Hector Area Lutheran Youth’s Drive-Up or Sit-In Fundraiser on Thursday, August 16th, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. You’re invited to join them for a meal featuring cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries and rootbeer floats. All proceeds will go towards mission projects and the group’s trip to the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit. In addition, following the meal at 7:30 PM, they’ll be presenting “Our Journey with the Citizens of the Saints,” sharing their experiences at this year’s ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans. The BL-H Area Lutheran Youth is made of students from Zion Lutheran in Buffalo Lake, and St. Paul’s Lutheran and First Lutheran in Hector.

    2. August 16 Lake Marion Improvement Association Meeting
      6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

      The next meeting of the Lake Marion Improvement Association will be on Thursday, August 16th, beginning at 6:30 PM at the Brownton Rod & Gun Club (19151 108th Street). This will be the annual meeting and will include the election of officers, as well as a summer potluck picnic that is open to the public. Bring a dish to share and they’ll provide the chicken and beverages. Future meetings will be on the third Thursdays in January, April, June and August of 2013.       The Plato Lions invite you to Burger Night on Friday, August 17th, in the City Park, with serving from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. In addition to the burgers, they’ll also be serving free sweet corn. There will be musical entertainment, too, as Creekside Jazz will be playing beginning at 5:00 PM. Bring your own lawn chairs and enjoy! Proceeds will go toward local projects.

      The monthly Bouja & Chicken Noodle Soup Sale at St. Anthony’s Church (170 Meeker Avenue South) in Watkins is on Sunday, August 19th, with sale hours from 8:30 AM – noon. Bouja is priced at $11.00 gallon and chicken noodle soup is $10.00 per gallon.

    2. August 19 Cedar Mills Rod & Gun Club Pancake Brunch
      9:00 am – 12:00 pm

      You and your family are invited to the Cedar Mills Rod & Gun Club (62841 140th Street) for their monthly pancake brunch on Sunday, August 19th, with serving from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Enjoy all-you-care-to-eat regular and potato pancakes, French toast, scramble eggs and more. The cost is $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 6 – 12 years of age, and those 5 and younger eat for free. The Cedar Mills Rod & Gun Club is located near the intersection of State Highways 7 and 22 northeast of Cedar Mills.

      St. Andrew’s Catholic Church (17 1st Street NW) of Fairfax is holding its annual Fun Fest on Sunday, August 19th. The fun begins with a Polka Mass at 9:30 AM with music by Harry Wojahn and the St. Andrew’s Polka Singers. Following the service until 1:00 PM will be a dinner of deep fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, salads, and more.  The cost for the meal is $9.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 6-12, and $2 for children under age 6. There will also be a lunch stand open from 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM serving authentic Mexican tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers, pies, and more.   Throughout the afternoon there will be music by Jeff Franta and activities including a country store and bingo.

    4. August 19 St. John’s Lutheran (Hollywood) Pork Chop Dinner
      11:00 am – 2:00 pm

      St. John’s Lutheran Church (17725 53rd Street) of Hollywood Township invites you to its 26th Annual Pork Chop Dinner on Sunday, August 19th, with serving from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, following the 9:30 AM contemporary worship service. Future suppers will be served on the fourth Friday of each month.     1. August 25 Gypsy Rebels Sponsoring Petting Zoo
      9:00 am – 5:00 pm

      The Gypsy Rebels Motorcycle Club is sponsoring a Petting Zoo at the McLeod County Fairground (840 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson on Saturday, August 25th, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Proceeds and items collected from the event will go toward families needing help with back to school supplies. The cost is $7.00 per family with no school supply donation, $5.00 per family with the donation of any school supply item, or FREE admission if you bring a backpack filled with school supplies. Everyone is invited.

    2. August 25 Glencoe EEA’s Sweet Corn & Bratwurst Feed
      10:00 am – 2:00 pm

      The Public is invited to the Glencoe EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter 92’s Annual Sweet Corn and Bratwurst Feed Fly-In/ Drive-In on Saturday, August 25th, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Glencoe Municipal Airport (9902 Dairy Avenue). On hand will be various types of aircraft along with some World War II airplanes. There will be a drawing for free airplane rides.

    3. August 25 Youth Conservation Field Day
      10:00 am – 11:00 am

      The annual Youth Conservation Field Day at Gopher Campfire Grounds (24718 County Road 7) will take place on Saturday, August 25th, beginning with registration at 9:00 AM and events starting at 10:00 AM.  The event is open to kids ages 6 – 17, and the cost for the entire day is only $5.00.  There will be sessions on trap shooting, archery, black powder, conservation education and more.  For more information, email to crriver@hutchtel.net.

    4. August 25 “Proclamation in Concert in Hutchinson
      6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      The Christian Rock band “Proclamation” will be in concert on Saturday, August 25th, beginning at 6:00 PM at Library Square in downtown Hutchinson.  There is no charge.  A free will offering will be taken.  Root beer floats will on sale.

    1. August 26 Penn-Fest at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church (all-day)

      St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church (16104 20th Street) of Brownton is having its annual celebration, Penn-Fest, on Sunday, August 26th. The day will begin with a 10:30 AM service featuring music from The BASICS and guest speaker Pastor Andrew Hermodsen-Olsen. Following the service, stay for a pork chop dinner served from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. The cost for the meal is $10.00 for everyone over the age of 10, $5.00 for children ages 3 – 10, and free for kids under 3 years of age. Take out orders will be available.

    2. August 26 Fish Boil Dinner
      11:30 am – 1:30 pm

      First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe will host a Fish Boil Dinner on Sunday, August 26th, with serving from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. The dinner will be served at the church’s Fellowship Center (925 13th Street East). The menu will feature pollock, along with potatoes, onions, coleslaw, bread, dessert and a beverage. The cost is a free will donation with proceeds going to the Orphan Grain Train. Matching funds will come from Thrivent.

    1. September 1 Volunteers Needed for Crow River Habitat for Humanity
      8:30 am – 4:00 pm

      Crow River Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to help with building the latest home in Hutchinson. They are looking for individuals or groups who can help on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Volunteers do not have to have building experience, just a willingness to help. Build team leaders will be there to assign and teach different tasks. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Volunteers do not have to sign up for the entire day. Even donating a few hours of time would be helpful and much appreciated.       New Century Academy and New Discovery Montessori School will celebrate the beginning of the school year with an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 28th, from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at the schools, located at 1000 5th Avenue SE in Hutchinson. Joining the event will be former Minnesota State Senator Ember Reichgott Junge. She will be available to sign copies of her new book, “Zero Change of Passage: The Pioneering Charter School Story.”

      The Cosmos Lions are sponsoring their 42nd Annual Labor Day Softball Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, September 1st and 2nd. The co-ed slow pitch tournament will be played at the Cosmos Softball Park, with the Lions Club serving burgers and beer, along with other concessions each day.

    1. September 8 Grace Lutheran Church’s 5K Fun Run Walk
      7:15 am – 8:15 am

      Grace Lutheran Church of Brownton is looking for participants for its 5K Fun Run/Walk and Free Kids Dash on Saturday, September 8th. The run will begin and end at the church (8638 Plum Avenue) with registration beginning at 7:15 AM. The Run/Walk will begin at 8:00 AM, with the Kids Dash to follow. The registration fee is $20.00 whether you pre-register (pre-registration ends on August 26th and everyone who registers by that date will receive a t-shirt. Registration forms are available at Security Bank & Trust in Brownton) or register the day of the event (t-shirt not guaranteed). All proceeds will go toward the church’s 125th Anniversary Celebration planned for July 21, 2013.

    2. September 8 & 9 St. Mary’s Church Fall Festival
      4:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      St. Mary’s Church of Waverly will have its Fall Festival, “Barn Dance 2012” on Saturday and Sunday, September 8th and 9th at the church’s Parish Center (607 Maple Avenue). The activities will begin Saturday at 4:00 PM with a Mass, followed by a pork chop dinner beginning at 5:00 PM. Saturday’s entertainment will feature Alan Godage & The Sundown Band 6:00 – 10:00 PM. On Sunday, there will be Masses at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM, Sunday brunch served from 8:00 AM – noon, and many other activities during the afternoon.

    3. September 8 St. Ignatius Parish Festival
      4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

      Annandale’s St. Ignatius Parish Festival will be on Saturday, September 8th. The Polka Mass will begin at 4:00 PM, with family fun for all ages beginning at 5:00 PM. Enjoy the chicken dinner with fresh pie for dessert or eat at the Knights of Columbus food stand. Activities include games for all ages, bingo, two bands, bake sale, silent auction, cake walk, beer garden and more! The church is located at 35 Birch Street East in Annandale.

    4. September 8 & 9 St. Anastasia Fall Festival
      4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

      St. Anastasia’s Catholic Church (460 Lake Street SW) of Hutchinson invites you to its Fall Festival on Saturday, September 8th, and Sunday, September 9th. Saturday’s schedule will begin with a Mass at 4:30 PM, followed by the Outdoor Social at 5:30 PM featuring food, live music, a country store and more. Sunday’s activities include two polka Masses (at 7:30 AM and 11:00 AM), a chicken dinner served from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, and all sorts of festival fun from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
