      See a local video on Colorado Steamers at the Mcleod County Historical Society on Thursday, May 22nd from 6-8pm.  Local journalist Terry Davis narrates this video on Colorado Steam Engines that were once used in Mcleod County.  More info go to mcleodhistory.org

    1. Plato Legion Memorial Day
      9:00 am – 10:00 am

      The public is invited to attend the Plato American Legion’s Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 26, 2014, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Plato Community Hall.  The featured speaker will be Captain Dennis Darnell.

    2. Silver Lake Legion Memorial Day Events
      10:30 am – 12:00 pm

      Silver Lake American Legion Post 141 will observe Memorial Day (May 26, 2014) with a parade and service.  The parade will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by a service at 10:45 AM at American Legion Park.  In case of rain, the service will be at the Silver Lake Auditorium.  The guest speaker for the service will be Joe Niesen.

    1. Medicare class
      1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

      The Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging®, Inc. will be teaching an  introductory class on Medicare. If you are getting ready to turn 65, new to Medicare or just want information about your benefits this class is for you!     1. FC Threshers Tractor Drive
      7:00 am – 12:30 pm

      The Forest City Threshers are having their Tractor Drive Fundraiser on Saturday, May 31st.  Registration is at 7 at the FC Threshing Show grounds, Drive starts at 8:30 am, and lunch is at Noon.  Cost is $25 for the drive, lunch, and tshirt…with proceeds benefiting the Meeker County Food Shelf.  

    2. Paws on Parade
      9:00 am – 12:00 pm

      The annual Paws on Parade is coming up on Saturday, May 31st at the Mcleod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.  Registration starts at 9 am, Walk at 10 am.  Collect pledges to win great prizes…the grand prize is a $750 travel voucher.  Food, Door Prizes, Silent Auction, Vendors, Demos and more are all a part of the event.  Come with or without a pet.  

    3. Hamilton Benefit
      11:00 am – 4:00 pm

      You’re invited to two benefit’s for Lee Hamilton on Saturday, May 31st.  First enjoy a spaghetti dinner starting at 2 pm at the Howard Lake American Legion (Adults $8, Children 12 and under $5).  A meat raffle, silent auction and bake sale are also going on at the Legion.  Then head over to the Howard Lake Municipal for a Beer Bust at 6 pm, plus Games and Fun all night.  Proceeds benefit Lee Hamilton who’s battling Stage 4 Lung, Liver, Bone, and Brain Cancer.

    1. Community Gardens
      7:30 am – 8:00 am

      Vineyard United Methodist Church is offering free gardens this year. They have 2 that are open, all plowed and ready for planting.  Water will be onsite.  The gardens are located on the north side of the church, corner of School road and South Grade Road.  Contact Dora @ 612-719-6712, or the church office at 320-587-2200 for more information.

    2. Car Buffs Breakfast
      9:00 am – 10:30 am

      The Willmar Car Club is hosting their Car Buffs Breakfast at the Cosmos Legion, Saturday, June 7th at 9 am.  The breakfast is open to area car enthusiasts.  

    3. Motorcycle Run
      9:00 am – 6:00 pm

      The 4th Annual Hutchinson Jaycee Water Carnival motorcycle run will be held on Saturday, June 7. Same day event, registration and lineup begin at 9:00 am at Buffalo Wild Wings with group departure promptly at 10:00 am. The route will feature four stops – Clara City, Spicer, Cold Spring, and Annandale – and will be approximately 160 miles round trip. New for 2014, the first 100 people to register the morning of the event will receive a Water Carnival Motorcycle Run T-shirt. The group will return to Buffalo Wild Wings no later than 6:00 pm for door prizes and other drawings. For more information, visit www.watercarnival.org

    1. Community Bingo
      2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

      Area Senior Citizens are invited to play Community Bingo on Sunday, June 8 from 2-3 PM in the dining room at Ecumen Pines! Community Bingo will be .25 cents per card, with the last game being a coverall and is $1.00 per card – WINNER TAKES ALL! Community Bingo is offered the 2nd Sunday of EACH month with complimentary coffee and snack immediately following.

    1. Alzheimers Support Group
      6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      The next meeting of the local area support group for adult children, spouses, and friends caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory loss will meet Tuesday, June 10 at 6 PM. This is a safe and welcoming place to meet others who are affected with similar issues, gather information/resources and to receive support throughout the various stages of this journey. Contact Kristal at (320) 583-1551 for more information. The group meets at 1st Lutheran Church in Glencoe, on the second Tuesday of every month. The support group is open to the public and free of charge. 

    2. Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      The next meeting of the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group will be on Tuesday, June 10, beginning at 7:00 PM in Conference Room F of Hutchinson Health Hospital. The group is open to the community at no cost. The group meets the second Tuesday of every other month. Future meeting date for 2014 are August 12, October 14 and December 9.     1. Water Carnival Run by the River
      8:00 am – 10:00 am

      The Hutchinson Jaycee Water Carnival committee is seeking runners to participate in the Water Carnival “Run by the River” on Saturday, June 14th.  Registration and race start will be at West Riverside Park. Registration begins at 6:30 am. The 8K run begins at 8:00 am, the 5K begins at 8:30 am, and the kid’s one mile begins at 9:30 am. Entry fees are $15.00 pre-registered and on race day for the kids run; $25.00 pre-registered and $30.00 on race day for the 8K and 5K fun walk/run; ($60.00 pre-registered family max, no maximum day of race registration). Pre-registration prices are good through June 12th, 2014.  Participants must be pre-registered by June 1st in order to receive a commemorative race T-shirt. Those registered after June 1st are NOT guaranteed to receive a T-shirt.  Prizes and/or medals will be awarded to the top finishers.  Proceeds will also benefit the Hutchinson Health Foundation Scholarship Program.     1. Dad’s Belgian Waffle Dinner

      You are invited to a Dad’s All you care to eat Belgian Waffles meal on Sunday, Jun 15th from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm at the American Bar and Grill in Hector.  Cost is just a free will donation.  Proceeds benefit future projects by Hector Community Spirit.  Carry outs are available.

    1. Mayer Lutheran Rummage Sale
      9:00 am – 7:00 pm

      Mayer Lutheran High School is having their 45th annual Rummage Sale on June 17-19th.  Hours Tuesday and Wednesday 9a-8p, and Thursday 9a-7p, all at the High School.  Check out all the many items, including the Plant Sale and New Items.  Concessions also available.

    2. Mcleod County Thrivent Picnic and Concert
      5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

      All Thrivent members are invited to attend the McLeod County Thrivent Chapter Summer Picnic on Tues, June 17th at 5:30 pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.  Chicken, beverages and dinnerware provide; please bring a dish to pass.  Bring your family and invite your friends!  RSVP to 238-2148 or 587-5837.  All community members are invited to attend a free concert by The BASICS (Brothers and Sisters in Christ Singers) also on Tues, June 17 at 7 pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.  A free will offering of food items and/or money will be collected for the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf.  Door prizes will be given.

    3. BASICS in Concert
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      The public is invited to a concert featuring the BASICS (Brothers and Sisters In Christ Singers).  The concert will be on Tuesday, June, 17, 2014, beginning at 7:00 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.  A free will offering of food items and/or cash for the McLeod County Food Shelf will be collected at the door.  Door prizes will be awarded.  The concert is sponsored by Thrivent Financial.

    1. Swedlanda Lutheran Midsummer Event
      4:30 pm – 8:30 pm

      All are invited to the Swedlanda Lutheran Midsummer Event on Wednesday, June 18. The Ice Cream Social will be held from 4:30 – 7:00 PM and will feature Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Pie, Cake & Ice Cream, Coffee & Lemonade. At 7:00 PM, the Jorgensen Family from Howard Lake will provide music (Family gospel bluegrass band).  Following the program the Swedlanda Men In Mission will serve pie and coffee with home-made ice cream. The church is located 9 miles southwest of Hector on County Road 16. 

    2. MN Teen Challenge Talk
      6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

      MN Teen Challenge will be speaking at Library Square in Hutchinson on Wednesday, June 18th at 6 pm.  The group is a faith based drug and alcohol addition treatment and recovery center and will share their message of hope.  Admission is free.  Grilled hot dogs, chips, and refreshments will be served for a free will donation.       You are invited to Hamburg’s Zummerfest on June 20th and 21st!  Events Friday include the Classic Car Show and Cruise, Food Stands, Music by the Trailblazers, Adult Bingo, Kids Obstacle Course, and City Wide Garage Sales.  Saturday’s events include Food Stands, Sporting events, Tractor and Truck Pull, Free Youth Activties, Kids pedal pull, BBQ Rib Contest, and DJ Music.  

    2. MidSummer Festival
      5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      The United Lutheran Church of Lake Lillian is having their MidSummer Festival on Friday, June 20th.  The Chicken Dinner will be served from 5-7 pm.  Cost is $9 for adults, $3 for kids 6-12, and under 5 is free.  On the menu is Fried Chicken, Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, Coleslaw, Ostkaka, and more.

    3. MidSummer Festival

    3. CR Beekeeping Fundraiser
      10:00 am – 4:00 pm

      The Crow River Beekeeping Club is having a fundraiser at the Hutchinson Mall on Saturday, June 21st from 10a-6p.  There will be vendors and a bake sale with products made from honey.  The clubs observation hive will be out to see the busy bees, plus they will be giving demonstrations.
