    1. August 25 Youth Conservation Field Day
      10:00 am – 11:00 am

      The annual Youth Conservation Field Day at Gopher Campfire Grounds (24718 County Road 7) will take place on Saturday, August 25th, beginning with registration at 9:00 AM and events starting at 10:00 AM.  The event is open to kids ages 6 – 17, and the cost for the entire day is only $5.00.  There will be sessions on trap shooting, archery, black powder, conservation education and more.  For more information, email to crriver@hutchtel.net.

    2. August 25 “Proclamation in Concert in Hutchinson
      6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      The Christian Rock band “Proclamation” will be in concert on Saturday, August 25th, beginning at 6:00 PM at Library Square in downtown Hutchinson.  There is no charge.  A free will offering will be taken.  Root beer floats will on sale.

    1. August 26 Penn-Fest at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church (all-day)
      Aug 26

      St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church (16104 20th Street) of Brownton is having its annual celebration, Penn-Fest, on Sunday, August 26th. The day will begin with a 10:30 AM service featuring music from The BASICS and guest speaker Pastor Andrew Hermodsen-Olsen. Following the service, stay for a pork chop dinner served from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. The cost for the meal is $10.00 for everyone over the age of 10, $5.00 for children ages 3 – 10, and free for kids under 3 years of age. Take out orders will be available.

    2. August 26 Fish Boil Dinner
      11:30 am – 1:30 pm

      First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe will host a Fish Boil Dinner on Sunday, August 26th, with serving from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. The dinner will be served at the church’s Fellowship Center (925 13th Street East). The menu will feature pollock, along with potatoes, onions, coleslaw, bread, dessert and a beverage. The cost is a free will donation with proceeds going to the Orphan Grain Train. Matching funds will come from Thrivent.

    1. September 1 Volunteers Needed for Crow River Habitat for Humanity
      8:30 am – 4:00 pm

      Crow River Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to help with building the latest home in Hutchinson. They are looking for individuals or groups who can help on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Volunteers do not have to have building experience, just a willingness to help. Build team leaders will be there to assign and teach different tasks. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Volunteers do not have to sign up for the entire day. Even donating a few hours of time would be helpful and much appreciated.     1. August 28 NCA/NDMS Ice Cream Social
      5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

      New Century Academy and New Discovery Montessori School will celebrate the beginning of the school year with an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 28th, from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at the schools, located at 1000 5th Avenue SE in Hutchinson. Joining the event will be former Minnesota State Senator Ember Reichgott Junge. She will be available to sign copies of her new book, “Zero Change of Passage: The Pioneering Charter School Story.”

    1. September 1st & 2nd Cosmos Labor Day Weekend Softball Tournament (all-day)

      The Cosmos Lions are sponsoring their 42nd Annual Labor Day Softball Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, September 1st and 2nd. The co-ed slow pitch tournament will be played at the Cosmos Softball Park, with the Lions Club serving burgers and beer, along with other concessions each day.

    1. September 8 Grace Lutheran Church’s 5K Fun Run Walk
      7:15 am – 8:15 am

      Grace Lutheran Church of Brownton is looking for participants for its 5K Fun Run/Walk and Free Kids Dash on Saturday, September 8th. The run will begin and end at the church (8638 Plum Avenue) with registration beginning at 7:15 AM. The Run/Walk will begin at 8:00 AM, with the Kids Dash to follow. The registration fee is $20.00 whether you pre-register (pre-registration ends on August 26th and everyone who registers by that date will receive a t-shirt. Registration forms are available at Security Bank & Trust in Brownton) or register the day of the event (t-shirt not guaranteed). All proceeds will go toward the church’s 125th Anniversary Celebration planned for July 21, 2013.

    2. September 8 & 9 St. Mary’s Church Fall Festival
      4:00 pm – 10:00 pm

      St. Mary’s Church of Waverly will have its Fall Festival, “Barn Dance 2012” on Saturday and Sunday, September 8th and 9th at the church’s Parish Center (607 Maple Avenue). The activities will begin Saturday at 4:00 PM with a Mass, followed by a pork chop dinner beginning at 5:00 PM. Saturday’s entertainment will feature Alan Godage & The Sundown Band 6:00 – 10:00 PM. On Sunday, there will be Masses at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM, Sunday brunch served from 8:00 AM – noon, and many other activities during the afternoon.

    3. September 8 St. Ignatius Parish Festival
      4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

      Annandale’s St. Ignatius Parish Festival will be on Saturday, September 8th. The Polka Mass will begin at 4:00 PM, with family fun for all ages beginning at 5:00 PM. Enjoy the chicken dinner with fresh pie for dessert or eat at the Knights of Columbus food stand. Activities include games for all ages, bingo, two bands, bake sale, silent auction, cake walk, beer garden and more! The church is located at 35 Birch Street East in Annandale.

    4. September 8 & 9 St. Anastasia Fall Festival
      4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

      St. Anastasia’s Catholic Church (460 Lake Street SW) of Hutchinson invites you to its Fall Festival on Saturday, September 8th, and Sunday, September 9th. Saturday’s schedule will begin with a Mass at 4:30 PM, followed by the Outdoor Social at 5:30 PM featuring food, live music, a country store and more. Sunday’s activities include two polka Masses (at 7:30 AM and 11:00 AM), a chicken dinner served from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, and all sorts of festival fun from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The cost for the chicken dinner is $8.00 for adults, $4.50 for kids ages 5 – 10, and free for children 4 years of age and younger. To order a meal and have it delivered, call 320-587-6507 .

    5. September 8 Krakeelva Lodge 1-676 Fall Kick-Off
      4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

      Kråkeelva Lodge 1-676 of the Sons of Norway will have their Fall Kick-Off on Saturday, September 8th, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM at the Historic Ness Church SW of Litchfield. Dean Urdahl, Dakota War historian, will speak on “Scandinavian Immigrants and the Dakota War” and give a tour of the Ness Church, which was a significant site 150 years ago when the conflict began. The public is welcome and can meet at the Ness Church at 4:30 PM or carpool from Shalom Baptist Church in Hutchinson. Car pools will leave promptly at 4:00 PM.     1. September 9 Fall Festival at St. Thomas More Catholic Church
      11:00 am – 1:00 pm

      St. Thomas More Catholic Church (781 2nd Street East) in Lake Lillian will host its Fall Festival on Sunday, September 9th, beginning with a Country Catholic Mass at 10:00 AM. A ham dinner will be served from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with a menu featuring ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, bread, coleslaw, pickles, desserts and beverages. The cost for adults is $8.00, and $4.00 for children 12 and younger. Take out orders will be available. In addition to the dinner, there will be garden fresh produce for sale, a bake sale and a fish pond.

    1. September 13 HCA to present the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band

      The Hutchinson Center for the Arts will present a performance of the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band, “Bourbon Street to Broadway,” on Thursday, September 13th, beginning at 7:00 PM at Hutchinson High School (1200 Roberts Road).       The Glencoe VFW Auxiliary is sponsoring the Fluff-N-Puff pillowing cleaning service on Friday, September 14th, from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the VFW Club in Glencoe (923 Chandler Avenue).

    2. September 14 Dassel Rod & Gun Club Fall Fish Fry
      11:30 am – 7:00 pm

      The Dassel Rod & Gun Club will have its Fall Fish Fry on Friday, September 14th, with serving from 11:30 AM – 7:00 PM. The event will be at Sportsman’s Park (70560 229th Street) on the north side of Lake Washington. The cost is $9.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under the age of 12.

      St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Waconia invites you to its Pancake, French Toast & Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, September 15th. The breakfast will be served at the church’s Parish Center (41 1st Street East) from 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The breakfast is a fundraiser for Catholic Education from Catholic United Financial.

    1. September 16 St. Matthew’s (Fernando) Fall Festival
      9:45 am – 10:45 am

      St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church (2402 County Road 7) in Fernando will celebrate its Fall Festival on Sunday, September 16th, beginning with a Polka Worship Service at 9:45 AM. Following the service, there will be a hog roast dinner. The cost for the dinner is a free will offering. Beginning at 1:00 PM, it’s the St. Matthew’s Fun Auction featuring handmade quilts, home canned salsa, spaghetti sauce, pickled beets and more! There will also be a variety of baked goods including the famous blueberry pies. You’ll also want to check out the garden fresh vegetables and craft items. Free coffee and bars will be served during the auction.

    2. September 16 Zion Ev. Lutheran Church Fall Festival
      9:45 am – 10:45 am

      You and your family are invited to join the congregation of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (228 5th Street NW) of Buffalo Lake for its Fall Festival on Sunday, September 16th, beginning with a 9:45 AM worship service featuring The BASICS. Following the service, there will be a picnic lunch (free will donation) and an auction.

    1. September 18 Caregiver Support Group Meeing
      1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

      The next meeting of the Renville County Hospice Caregiver Support Group will be on Tuesday, September 18th, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM in the Willette Room of RC Hospital & Clinics in Olivia. The focus for this month’s meeting will be a presentation by Karen providing information on a program regarding special telephones for those who have difficulty hearing. She will also be a resource from the Minnesota Department of Human Services programs for the hearing impaired. The meeting is free of charge, and there will be time for discussion and support.       The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Brownton on Thursday, September 20th, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM at the Brownton Community Center (310 2nd Street North). If you are at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental/guardian’s consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health, you’re encouraged to donate.

    1. September 22 & 23 Hutchinson Elks Gun Show (all-day)

      The Hutchinson Elks Club 31st Annual Gun Show will be Saturday and Sunday, September 22nd and 23rd, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds (840 Century Avenue SW) in Hutchinson. This year’s show will feature over 320 tables of guns, knives, and coins. Saturday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Sunday’s hours will be from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Admission is $3.00.

    2. September 22 Equinox Festival
      8:30 am – 9:30 am

      The McLeod/Meeker County Area Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) invites you to the Equinox Festival on Saturday, September 22nd, beginning at 8:00 AM at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. The event will begin with breakfast from 8:00 – 10:30 AM, served by the Litchfield United Methodist Church. The flea market will be from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, bingo from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, a Car, Truck and Motorcycle show starting at 11:30 AM, “Chopper – The World’s Nuttiest DJ” begins at noon, and a Minni-Rod Tractor Pull starting at 2:00 PM. Vendors, crafters and garage salers are all needed for the flea market, as are participants for the Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show.     1. September 23 Country Gospel Worship Service at Peace Lutheran Church (Cosmos)

      Peace Lutheran Church (140 Saturn Street) of Cosmos presents a special Country Gospel Worship Service on Sunday, September 23rd, beginning at 10:00 AM. The service will feature music by The Prairie Rose Band. Following the service, there will be a meal featuring roast turkey sandwiches, potato salad, chips, pickles, ice cream sundaes and floats. The cost for the meal is a free will offering. Everyone is welcome!

    2. September 23 Concert To Benefit McLeod Emergency Food Shelf
      4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

      First Evangelical Lutheran Church (925 13th Street East) in Glencoe will host a free concert, featuring the bluegrass music of the Kingery Family, to benefit the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf on Sunday, September 23rd, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket for the outdoor performance. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside. If you are able, please bring a donation for the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf.

      St. John Lutheran Church (17725 53rd Street) of Hollywood Township is having a rummage sale Thursday – Saturday, September 27th – 29th. Thursday’s and Friday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday’s hours will be from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Saturday is “Bag Day,” fill a bag of selected items for only $5.00. The sale will be in the church basement and in the tents on the back lawn.

      Peace Lutheran Church of Watertown will have its Fall Bazaar & Bake Sale on Friday, September 28th, from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 29th, from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Snap Fitness Building (605 Lewis Avenue North). Featured items include handmade crafts, American Girl doll clothes, woodworking items, jewelry, scarves, baby items, greeting cards, canned and baked goods. Funds supplemented by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

    1. September 29 Nobel Shadduck Harvest Festival at Pioneer Park
      11:00 am – 4:00 pm

      Minnesota Pioneer Park (725 Pioneer Trail), located just east of Annandale along Highway 55, invites you to the Nobel Shadduck Harvest Festival Concert and 40th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, September 29th, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. There will be live music from 12:00 – 1:30 PM by Phyllis Hummel and Her Swingin’ Country Band. At 2:00 PM, a reception will take place celebrating Pioneer Park’s 40th Anniversary. There will be old-fashioned demonstrations, a Civil War camp, hay wagon rides along the park, children’s activities in the one-room school house, and the Pioneer Kitchen will be open serving its famous buffalo burgers and old fashioned brats. Admission is $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, and $4.00 for students and free for children under the age of 5.     2. September 29 Humane Society Fundraiser at DWP Outreach Center
      1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

      The “Developing Winning Personalities” (DWP) Outreach Center (60755 205th Street) near Litchfield will host a Humane Society Adopt A Dog Fundraiser on Saturday, September 29th, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. Dogs will be available for adoption to good families that day, and they’ll be educating families on how to take care of their dog as well as showing the different activities families can do with their dog. Some of the activities offered during the event will include rock climbing, train rides, a petting zoo, 10-hole mini-golf, and a puppet show introducing the next Jan & Jenny book, “How Lucky Am I?,” a story about an abused dog that finds a good home. The cost for the entire day is $35.00, with tickets available at these Hutchinson businesses: Animal Medical Center on Crow River, the office of State Farm Agent Kim Kotzer, Hutchinson Pet Hospital and Runnings.
