Gerald Laird hit a solo home run in the 13th inning to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 10-9 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.
Both teams had opportunites to end the game earlier. The Twins led 7-to-3 entering the eighth inning, but back-to-back home runs by Jhonny Peralta and Ryan Raburn, a costly throwing error by Minnesota shortstop J.J. Hardy, and a two-run single by Will Rhymes tied the score at 7.
Alexi Casilla's single gave the Twins an 8-to-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth, but Jesse Crain served up a home run ball to Casper Wells in the ninth to keep the game going.
Both teams scored in the eleventh inning, before Laird's home run gave the Tigers a lead they could hold in the thirteenth.
